Hi, i am a college student and i depend on my mom, she my only parent, dad past away. Okay i started working?
last year and i just receive my W2, i made $3985.00 I'm wondering can i file for taxes because the federal income tax withheld was 339.39, also i heard you can't file for taxes if you make below 5 grand is that true? and if i file will it accept my EFC on my fafsa? that is what i am really curious about or should i just not file? I am just trying to finish college.

You are misunderstanding. You do not HAVE to file taxes if your income
Is below a certain amount. In your case, you absolutely SHOULD file as it is highly likely you will get a refund check sent to you. In the IRS website, there should be a place to free file. Get out that w2 and fill in the blanks on a 1040EZ.

Even if you don’t file a tax return, you still need to include your 2012 income on a 2013-2014 FAFSA if you complete one. This 2012 income has absolutely nothing to do with your financial aid for THIS current school year.

yeah but doesn’t it affect the amount of financial aid i would receive tho?

On fafsa there is an income allowance of $6130. Income below that won’t affect federal aid. You would still have to report the income on fafsa even if you don’t file so file and get your withholding back.

Osas…you are required to report your income on the FAFSA whether you file taxes or not.

Are you worried about current aid, or aid for next school year?

Regardless, it looks like you earned below the amount that would affect financial aid.

I was worried about the aid for next semester, and thanks a lot for the information, i feel more relieve now and i will def file! thanks!
