Should I file last year's grant/scholarship on FAFSA?

I am really confused. I got the tax return paper about my school tuition, and basically it says I have received 9K in grants/scholarship and spent 7K of it in tuition.

I am an independent student, and when I asked the guy who does my taxes, he says since I don't have any source of income (i am a full-time student w/o a job), I don't have to file taxes this year, period.

Then what do I put in the FAFSA where it says what my AGI is, and also the amount of grants/scholarships received?

Help is appreciated.

If you do not have to file a tax return (because your income is not high enough) then you do not have to report your scholarships/grants on FAFSA.

If your income was high enough to have to file a return then you would report your AGI from your tax return on FAFSA. Then in question 43d you would report any taxable scholarships/grants that are included in the AGI. This is so that the EFC formula can deduct taxable scholarships/grants from your AGI so they do not negatively impact your EFC.

ahh… so since I don’t have any source of income, I don’t have to file taxes, thus put 0’s on both AGI and scholarship grants.
