I'm finishing up my Common App and I'm wondering if I should fill out the Additional Information section of the application. I have no idea what I would say in it, and I don't want to come off as desperate.

Most people use it to attach a resume (if they have more activities and awards than they could fit). If you don’t need the extra space, there really is no reason to upload anything.

Don’t attach junk to it.
The admissions people get pretty annoyed when you do that.

If nothing jumps to mind, you should probably leave it blank. I would guess that a high percentage of the additional information submitted ends up being something that admissions officer thought was a waste of their time.

So just to clarify, I have a resume with tons of honors/awards that I couldn’t fit on the CommonApp. Should I not even upload it on the additional information section? If they throw it away anyway, why is there even a spot for it?

upload it.

Can I upload a picture in the additional information section? Its actually a newspaper cutting. Something which got published

I personally wouldn’t, but it’s your app and up to you.

My son applied ED and was accepted. He added part of an email outlining a program he was accepted into. Anything that sets you apart should be added in my opinion. If you don’t tell them they will not know.
