Should I get a computer science minor to add to my civil engineering major?

Is it worth it to get a CS minor? Will it open up any more doors, career-wise?

I am considering doing the same thing. Many companies I have looked at say programming skills would be a plus in there job requirements.

Yes. You should. It will make you more employable and will likely separate you from other job candidates. No matter what career you get into these days, computer technology is driving the future of our entire economy and those with a strong computer background will be above the herd.

You don’t necessarily have to get a minor. Just learn how to program, and advertise it in your cover letter and resume. But yes, it’s very useful, particularly in structural engineering.
