should I get a new laptop?

I was recently admitted to UCLA as an incoming freshman (& I hope my finals scores won't get me rescinded....), and I'm not sure whether I should keep my laptop (Toshiba Satellite-L745-S4235, which works fine but the battery life is not great), or get a new laptop. So what do you guys think?
and if I get a new one, should I get a pc or a mac?
I'm gonna be a MIMG major (Biology-related) and I'm not a gamer or anything, so I don't have any special requirements...just a laptop with a good battery life, not very heavy, and capable of running any softwares I'd need for my major, & my budget is about $1000 max.

I would stick with your current computer now and see how it suits you once you have a chance to use it at college. If it still works well except for battery life, there’s no point dropping a ton of money on a new computer if you don’t end up needing to run on battery a lot. A lot of new classrooms have outlets by the seats.

Was the battery life always short, or has it decreased a lot since you got it? You could consider just buying a new battery, or getting that second battery so you could swap them out for more time without outlets.

But if you do decide to get a new computer and don’t have demanding spec requirements, you can get a good computer for far less than $1000. Even “lower end” computers now days are very capable.
