Should I Get A Roommate?

Hey everyone,

I've been accepted ED 1 at George Washington and am currently thinking about housing. I am strongly considering getting a single dorm, as I, in all honesty, don't get along with a significant minority of people. But I met a good guy who I'm considering as a roommate. Which one should I go with? Are people lonely alone or are they just as social as everyone else? Do most people get along with their roommates or do they always end up hating them?

Thanks for the help.

In my experience, most people end up getting along with their roommates or at least coexisting peacefully. If there are problems, it’s not usually too difficult to work out a room swap situation, particularly if you’re in a more desirable dorm to begin with. If you’ve met someone who you think you could get along well with, I think you should try to room with him. The first few weeks of school can be really overwhelming and it’s nice to have a built-in friend from the start. Being in a single without having an established friend base could be isolating, especially if you’re not much of a people person to begin with.
