So I've been looking for summer internships and I can find absolutely none for high schoolers. So I've been thinking about applying for a few retail jobs at the mall? Should I? Or do colleges not see that as a productive summer? This summer I am also working on my non-profit organization.

I think working for pay is underrated on here, probably because CCers tend to be affluent. It’s definitely productive and it says more about your character than a fancy internship.

will you be able to get a job if you apply this late?

Working is an underrated EC. Much better than doing nothing.

Yeah. Banana Republic, GAP and Von Maur are all hiring at the mall near my house :0 The thing is I didn’t apply to any internships since I wasn’t suppose to be in the country all summer but plans got changed :/

in that case, why not? I would say that would look good on your app :)

okk Haha I’m bored of being at home anyways :P

Why wouldn’t you? Gives you something to do, you get MONEY for it, for Pete’s sake, and you can put it on your college app (typical CCer statement…). Win-win-win situation.

^ And you get to meet cute guys/girl ;)

Win^4.

Definitely do if you’re able to! I can’t seem to be able to get hired around here… yet.

Does babysitting look like not a real job on college apps? Even if it’s like 22 hours a week?

Colleges want to see a well rounded applicant, and I believe working in the summer would provide you with that. It could lead to something bigger and contacts within the organization that you work for…
