Hello, I was planning on taking rhetoric r1a in the fall of 2012 would you guys recommend going straight into R1B with AP Credit or do you recommend staying in R1A? Is it extremely difficult to make this transition or no? I really could use the empty space from not taking the R1A course and going to R1B, so could you guys give me the positives and the negatives of doing so?

I would just go with R1B. R&C is really just a requirement, so I’d just try to get that out of the way ASAP. Personally, I’m not strong at all in writing and reading. I waived out of R1A, but missed out on waiving out R1B. I took it my second semester at Cal, and still ended up with a solid B. You’ll probably be fine. Just be sure to pick the easier R1B classes. I heard Scandinavian is a good one.

I’m sorry; Scandinavian should be R5B, not R1B. Anything with R_B satisfies the R&C B req.

Yeah, you’ll be fine if you skip R1A. Get it out of the way. I’ve heard from a lot of upperclassmen that R1A was fairly pointless.
