Hey College Confidential!

I was just wondering if prep books are really worth it. I haven't used one for my AP courses and I got a 3 (THREE IS FOR DEAD ASIAN). Do you guys recommend that I spend $30+ on prep books from eBay or I just self-study the course?

Also does edition matter? I can get several dollars off if I downgrade an edition on this Barron's book.

Thanks!

Also what do you do with prep books after you have finished them? Thank you!

Only get prep books if you feel you have difficulty understanding content (with the exception of some memory based APs such as APUSH and World). Otherwise, just get released exams and make sure you are familiar with the format and that you understand all of the content. If you find you are missing content, there are many online videos you can turn to before you have to buy a prep book. IMO, none of the prep books are exceptional.

If you’re looking at older editions, they should be pretty close to the current edition. Just make sure the AP course hasn’t been redesigned after the book was written (Chem and Bio to name a couple).
