Should I get this linens deal?

Haha well I just got a brochure from Penn about these linens that are guaranteed to last and all that, one of 'em is like $200 for a lot of stuff. It seems good, but I don't know if it's worth it, depending if I decide to live off campus later on or not.

Opinions?

not worth it

Can you elaborate why not, or give some other options?

I'm getting the $200 one, plus the $25 bathroom stuff. Definitely worth it. Don't be cheap. You can easily spend more buying each of the items on that list separately. This way, you can get it, charge it/write the check, and everything will be waiting for you when you arrive, no hassle.

That's what I was thinking too Esviel, but I'm waiting to see why crashingwaves advises against it.

I'm getting the value pack just to save myself time and aggravation. Unless you love to uber-customize your room, I don't see why you wouldn't get it.

Poor quality, towel fell apart on first washing and quilt is falling apart after one year of use.

Target has XL sheets etc. I have found their quality to be good. You can order what you need online and be done. Although the store on City Line is about 10 minutes by car (you can probably split a cab), there is no easy public transportation to get there.

You can take the 40 bus to get there but I would probably take a cab back if buying things.

I don't know why you would pay over $200 for sheets and such when you could probably spend less than $50 total at Walmart or Target. I take it you all are referring to the material Penn sent you? It's a scam, and the stuff is of poor quality. Same with the fridge/microwave rentals. Welcome to the world of less-than-perfect Penn crap.

Another wonderful online site- overstock.com. You can get twin XL sheets etc etc and all for $2.95 shipping.

Bed Bath and Beyond and Target will have sales and coupons for students entering college. I spent less than $200 on sheets and towels last year and they'll last me into next year.

here's what you get for $200 from the Penn thing
2 extra-long flat sheets
2 extra-long fitted sheets
4 standard pillow cases
2 extra-fluffy machine-washable pillows
1 extra-long reversible comforter
1 extra-soft fleece throw/blanket
1 extra-long quilted mattress pad
1 extra-long egg crate pad
2 all-cotton bath towels, 27" x 50"
2 matching cotton hand towels
2 matching cotton wash cloths
1 oversized bath sheet
1 pop-open hamper
1 underbed storage solution
1 bedside buddy

Now, looking at overstock.com, I saw a Twin XL comforter set for $60.00. you get ONE flat sheet, ONE fitted sheet, ONE sham, and the comforter. that's $120 right there if you want something in comparison to the Penn stuff. Now imagine buying everything ELSE on that list, separately. I'm sure that you'd end up spending wayy more than $200.

You get a COMFORTER (check how much THEY cost by themselves, let alone a reversible one), a fleece blanket, matress pad and egg crate pad, a hamper for goodness sake!

to all of those who said that they spent less, of course you did but who went out and bought ALL THAT STUFF and still managed to keep it under $200? Now one can argue that one doesn't NEED all that stuff, which is perfectly fine. But I think that for what you get in the package, it's a very good deal.

All you have to do is just order that, and you're FINISHED. NO shopping around, NO hassle finding a store or worrying about public transportation (as someone else brought up), NO worrying about whether you forgot anything, ("damn, i forgot to buy X or I forgot to pick up Y"),

That's exactly what I was thinking Esviel, but everyone else argues its poor quality.

Which is kinda lame, considering they guarantee their stuff lasts 4 years =/

hmm....I really can't say anything about the quality of the Penn goods but i've had some pretty cheap sheets/towels and they've lasted me for years and they're nowhere NEAR what you would call "high quality"....all I can say is go with your gut on this one man......I'll report on the quality/etc when I receive mine in the mail (free shipping!)

I think that company markets to alot of universities besides Penn because I got a catalog like that too. I was going to buy it because of convenience but some upperclassmen advised me not to. They said they stuff was poorly made and uncomfortable to use. Remember, if a deal looks too good to be true it just might be. Plus some of the stuff is crap/ unneeded. Bedside buddy? come on. and i know for a fact that those little hamper things don't cost 14.95. If I were to get a pack, I'd get one of the smaller ones like the 15 pc pack. However, if you really just want convenience go for the pack

P.S- i went to Bed bath and Beyond just this weekend looking at bed stuff ( a little early? i know, lol) Anyway, they were selling beds in a bag for around $55 including a comforter, flat sheets, fitted sheets, pillow cases, etc. i thought that was a pretty good deal

I have to disagree re poor quality. We bought the value pack for our daughter 2 years ago and it's all still in good shape. I'm even thinking of sending it to school with her freshman sister next year, now that d #1 has an apt. and a double bed.

Ahh so maybe people weren't taking care of their stuff very well nerb?

I'm still torn between the value pack and just getting the absolute necessities from bed bath & beyond.

I'm going to go with the business cliche and say that time is money. The ease and simplicity of getting the value pack trumps the time and effort that goes into finding a bedroom set to fit the extra-long twin size, in coordinating colors no less. Plus, you've got a 4-year money-back satisfaction guarantee. What do you have to lose?
