Should I give a try or go to a community college?

I'm a HS junior who came to America in 2006. (1 1/2 year ago)
My GPA now is 3.86...but I got not too many AP classes(2?)
I attend cross-country team last year and Track team now.
I like Fine Arts so much, and I'm planning to take AP art test next year.
I had entered some contests of Art but I need to get the results still.

SAT...1600s (I tried hard...)

I want to major fine art in college.

Is that possible that I can go to a UC?(UCI/UCD)?
Is CSU fine to me? ORR an Academy ?

OR I SHOULD go to a community college then transfer?

PLEASE TELL ME WHICH WAY IS GOOD FOR ME!!

First you have to get into a UC school before you can go to a UC school.

Unless money’s really tight and you would need to go to a community college just to save on tuition and room and board costs, you would be fine with getting into a four-year college. UCI would probably be a reach, but you could get into UC Davis or a CSU campus without too much trouble. Private art colleges would probably be glad to have you, too, assuming you have a solid portfolio.

Don’t beat yourself up based on what you see in other posts here. There’s no way we’re typical of the usual college applicants- your stats might seem low compared to other posts here, but they’re better than the average high schooler. You’re doing just fine, and you definitely don’t have to be a perfect student to get a good education.

Umm…I just want to be an artist and save my parents’ money…I try to catch up with others here and I see the difference—they are native-born kids here. Although my parents told me that they won’t care where do I go, I want to make them proud of me because I can go to a good college. SO…

If you are talented enough, you will get into college based on your art portfolio, along with good grades. I would suggest applying to some private schools where merit money or financial aid may be easier to get than at public colleges. If you are set on state schools, Cal state Fullerton has a good art program. Check out the UCSB College of Creative Studies, which provides a school within a school for those in certain fields of study, including fine art. Your gpa is fine. Work on your portfolio and try to get on an arts council for teens (check local museums & arts organizations) where you can learn more about the art world and have an opportunity to exhibit your work. You do not have to sit home waiting to see if you won any awards… find other teen artists and offer to curate an exhibit for your local elementary school, community center, city hall, or local business. If you have the chance, visit the galleries of the schools you have mentioned and take a look at the type of work that is being done. Good luck!

I think you should go to a 4 year college. According to your statistics, I believe that you are eligible for a CSU and UC. Good luck =]

I’ve heard that my school has the highest ranking in the district, and the courses in my school are hard than the other schools. Is that a factor for the college to look for? (M***s high school)

Just ask…:)
