I'll definitely check them.

Can anyone give me a recommended score I should get on my SATs to work for FSU? Is FSU one of those schools that'll allow SATs to make up for grades?

I know someone who had a 1540 (cr+M) who got in with a gpa of about 2.8. I know someone else with probably a lower gpa who got in with an 800 cr.

Less than 5% of FSU frosh have GPAs lower than 3.0. You can always go to a FL CC, get some decent grads, and transfer. Also, there are some decent southern LACs that have Denver-like admin #s My advice: if your're smarter than your grades go for the FSU transfer via a local jr college; if not, shoot for a DU kind of school.

"Less than 5% of FSU frosh have GPAs lower than 3.0."

I hope this stat isn't true about those being accepted, becaues if it is, I don't see how FSU has a 62% admission rate and I don't myself getting in.

Another question - how much can applying for the CARE Summer Bridge Program help me? Are there even other people with a GPA as bad as mine applying?

I read an article that says 310 students participated in the Summer Bridge Program. I'm trying to get statistics on the program, but really can't find any.

I should add that I'm really afraid of staying at home. I know that if I stay, the situation at home is going to be a repitition of high school and that may bomb my grades in the local community college. How much money could I possibly get to move out and attend a community college somewhere away from home?

It probably is true. Just because they have a higher admit rate doesn't mean they are less selective. Look at FAU. They accepted only 54% of their applicants, and 24% of people who have a GPA between 2.5 and 2.9 attend it.

I would also suggest you look at FGCU. The campus environment there is supposed to be excellent. They are public, accept 71% of their applicants, and 19% of their student body has GPAs between 2.5 and 2.9.

By no means should you be giving up on college. If I had your grades, I would be aspiring to go to FGCU, and is my personal favorite of the less selective Florida colleges. As others have said before, apply to a community college as a safety as well.

I'll check them out. My mom lives in Fort Myers. Alot of these universities aren't to my liking (except maybe Denver's), but now is no time for me to be picky.

Could I go to one of these universities and transfer to FSU after a year? What's the soonest I could try? Could I go to one and attempt to apply for FSU's Fall term?

BUMP - Sorry, really wanted to know the answer to my last question.

I just want to give you some blunt advise. You don't have to apply to a community college as a safety. You can walk into a community college at any time and still get in, don't worry. I'm in a similar predicament with a unfavorable GPA(3.3) resulting from a particularly rigorous high school curriculum. If it were me I would ignore every persons advise that consists of going to another university, and I would especially ignore the military idea because all of which would consist of compromising you dream, and inevitably your future. All I'm saying is if you want to go to FSU and you can't get in, take the community college route. If your a good student, you can transfer in as soon as a semester. The highest rate of drop-outs is always in the first semester of the freshmen year at FSU, which is consistent at most universities. Also the cc route is cheaper, and with a 75% bright futures scholarship it is free. Other benefits include you will be able to attend FSU with a an A.A.(this is state mandated), and you won't fall into the trap you would at another University. All I'm saying is it is possible for you to follow your dreams with out compromising anything along the way.

Don't give up! My stats are very similar to yours. I have a 2.9 GPA and I have a D for junior year 2nd semester in AP English, with an A made up in summer school, but in CP English.

But, I'm active in YMCA's Youth & Government program, and have taken AP and Honors courses all throughout high school. I was feeling the same way as you do about college, but applied anyways. I applied to 8 schools, and have been accepted to 2 already!

So your numbers aren't everything =]
