I’m about to be 29 years old I’m a long haul trucker the money isn’t that bad 82k last year. I went to college many years ago did well for first year then dropped out. It’s been bugging me having no life other than traveling I’m interested in cyber security or programming. If I went to college I could afford it but I’d have to go online 100% because of my job. Currently I’m investing like 60 to 70% of my paychecks because I don’t have many bills or rent or any of that and yes in 10 to 15 years I will most likely have 1 million dollars but that depends on market performance. Or I could go to college give up lots of money that o have and hope for a degree and a job. I’m older now but my main concern is I have 4 misdeamnor charges. Which could make it difficult to get a job in computer science. Should I go to college or not is it a wise decision? Thank you
I’ve been thinking about your post and have a few thoughts. First of all, don’t worry about your age…lots of folks here have started/stopped/restarted/whatever at many different ages (in fact, GATech had a great tweet the other day about a 45-year-old woman from MA starting full-time as an undergrad engineering student this fall).
Then specifically on truck driving…this is kind of obscure but I was in Boston a couple of months ago and happened upon a rally for presidential candidate Andrew Yang and his campaign theme is that we should all need to acknowledge the upcoming Robot Apocalypse and part of me rolled my eyes but he actually brought up a few really good points. And long-distance truckers are at the top of his list of jobs that will be gone https://www.axios.com/andrew-yang-automation-american-trucking-industry-018d0ad7-951d-4c59-9f16-2e9cf67b789e.html
Two questions: Are you saying that you would stay a trucker and take college classes at night? And what are your misdemeanor charges all about?
