Hey guys,
I am not able to decide on East/West Campus. I am leaning towards West right now. Pls. advise. Also, do you know which freshman dorm is the best--bigger/newer etc? And also, if I should join the Freshman Experience program. I heard something like 85% freshman do it, so does it have a lot of advantages? Any other information on housing/Tech would be great.

btw, I am an International student from India and wanna do Industrial Engg..

Basically what I've heard is that East is more open and a "party feel"; whereas west campus is quieter. However, most all of the freshman classes are on East so that is something to consider.

The block bordering 10th and 17th to the north of tech is all college kids.
Everything east of downtown and north of ponce de leon is extremely nice. Things south of ponce de leon are a mish mosh with some lower class neighborhoods, but nothing as rough as that blue circle.

I stayed in West Campus last year. As others have mentioned, Folk and Caldwell were recently renovated. All the furniture in Folk and Caldwell is movable. While most students stick with a fairly conventional room plan, there are some very creative layouts in F&C. In addition, all the rooms in F&C have carpet. I've been to Freeman once, and I thought the lighting in Freeman wasn't as bright as it is in F&C. Folk has a 3:1 male-to-female ratio, and Caldwell is 1:1.

I was a part of Folk, Caldwell, Armstrong last year, so I heartily recommend staying in either Folk or Caldwell. I never set foot in Armstrong, so I don't know much about it. To my knowledge, F&C is the most recently updated and has the biggest rooms of all freshman dorms.

I recommend being a part of Freshman Experience. If you don't join it, then you can't stay in any of the freshman-only dorms. The remaining options are Woodruff South and Harris, although on the first day of school, I did meet two freshmen who applied late and got apartments.

I stayed on West Campus this past year and even though we had bigger dorms than East in general, and a nicer dining hall, I would have gone to East if I could do it over again. If you plan on going Greek, definitely go to East Campus. I had zero intentions on going Greek, and I only really rushed because the freshman events Tech has for you in the week before school starts are pretty lame, but I ended up joining a fraternity anyways. Thats really the only reason though. Other than that, West campus dorms are bigger, have a better dining hall, and really aren't any further from classes than East campus dorms. If you're a freshman technical major most of your classes will probably be in Skiles or Howey. Howey is closer to West, and Skiles is closer to East.
