Should I go for it?

Ok, here's my situation.

My dad works for IBM, so he can get me a discount on either Lenovo or IBM laptops. My Bible as Lit/Philosophy teacher (I have the same teacher for both) is trying to convince me to buy a mac.

I'm going to be a Psychology major, so I don't need anything particularly hardcore. Any suggestions?

go with the IBM since you have the discount and no particular need for the Mac

If you can get a significant discount on an IBM or Lenovo, then definitely get one of those.

buy whatever's cheaper...or, if you prefer Macs, buy it anyway if their isn't a big price difference, if you'd buy a normal Macbook.

Macs are overpriced; you can get a nice laptop with a 2.6 ghz duo, 4 gb ram and a decent video card for less than $1000 off the IBM/lenevo deal.

Yeah, don't waste money on a Mac, they're overpriced and crappy anyway. The only reason anyone gets them is because they're "hip". Since your dad can get you a discount on a Thinkpad, go for it.

The ThinkPads are well built machines, and the employee discount on ThinkPads is supposed to be great. I'd recommend the ThinkPad.

You could go Mac if you really want, but that is my recommendation.

I'm no fan of mac os, but I must admit that the UI (user interface; the part that lets you click around instead of manipulating files from the terminal) is unbelievably nice. If you're pretty sure that you won't be needing to screw around with the computer, go with the mac. It'll save you a lot of hassle later on.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. :) I've never really been a fan of Macs, so I guess I'll go with whatever my dad suggests.

Actually, I'll ask my mom. Funnily enough, my dad doesn't know crap about computers. XD
