After months of waiting for Michigan since I am deferred, I only was outright accepted at my safety school: UCONN, I got waitlisted at two other schools and rejected at the other, my question is now I have ruled out the waitlist schools for money reasons and such, should I go to UCONN even if I get into Michigan?

I'm from NY, I have a graduating class of 150 so I'm used to a small town feeling (I live in the college town of Hamilton College), could I go to UCONN and get just as good of an education as UMich for 15K less, or should I seriously think about UMich (Environmental policy/law programs and english would be my concentration of classes)?
Is UCONN underrated, or is it going to be decent if I don't get into UMich after being deferred like most ppl were.
I'm torn between easy/cheaper, and harder/more prestigious. HELLLLLLLP!

well, I know this is a UMich forum, so most ppl will say Michigan is a million times better and such, but, is the size really going to be hard to deal with, are groups easy to join to make the place smaller?

AHHHHH Can't wait for my decision, I'm a borderline applicant:
I suck at math but am probably the top 5 in my class at a competitive school in english and language classes. I have all the credentials and honors and APs and service and everything but my math SAT blows since I took honors math really fast from 8th to 11th grade and finished hs math early, I only got a 540 math SAT and I got 680CR and 620W....1220/1840. I have about a 3.7 gpa I think.
I'm scared with a 27 SAT and an 1840 SAT.....even with amazing everything else and a decent oboe recording I sent in as an extra, am I headed for rejection????? If more stats are needed I'll give them I guess.

I'm from Connecticut, and I'm choosing Michigan....mostly for 2 reasons
1) UCONN is in the middle of nowhere, there is no town, the college is the town, you aren't near anything really except for Hartford, not so nice, and Boston is closeish.
2) The students at Michigan seemed to me to be much more motivated and really wanting to learn more then the UCONN students.
But still UConn's a great choice, it's really been rising in the last few years and does carry prestige in and around my area especially if you are graduating from their highly ranked programs.

okay so if I get into UMich I guess I'll probably go, by the way typo up there I meant 27 ACT. Here's a question (my stats are posted on the last page of the Abuse by UMich thread....am I going to be overwhelmed at UMich if I do get in since I'm borderline?
Will UConn be too easy for me since I'm in the top like 80% there?
Also I'm interested in law (probably environmental) isit going to be hard to get into the law school at UMich?

well thanks for the honesty, but I wan't trying to sound pretentious I was just saying is it worth going there for law, if its impossible to get into the law school anyhow.

I think a 27 is pretty low for Michigan. However, considering UMich's emphasis on the importance of grades and curriculum, you still have a good chance.

Even if you don't get into UMich, you can always goto UConn and excel. If you went to Michigan you probably wouldn't stand out as much, whereas if you went to UConn, you'd probably be able to obtain a higher GPA and possibly, get into a better grad school, with no debt.

yeah I take all like basically all honors and APs so maybe that coupled with a really good senior year average might be my saving grace despite my bad math SAT score (I didn't study which was bad).

well yeah frankly odds are I'm rejected at UMich but I have to at least consider the possibilities. Here's a question then, if anyone knows, do you think many deferred kids really want to go to UMich anymore, many seem to have written the school off after the long wait...
and is the dorm construction/taking less going to basically blow any chances I had?

I would think that being at the top of your class at uconn is better than blowing ass at umich, but why are you so convinced that there'll be THAT much of a difference? I don't think its quite that dramatic.

But theyre right, better to not speculate too much before your decisions come. I spent way too much time debating Mich/Penn before I finally got my rejection letter from penn. Not that I would have gone anyways, but it was a lot of time wasted.

I find it funny that you say that michigan is better than UConn. None of you are in college!!!! You don't know!!! I go to UConn and have a few buddies at michigan, all of which do not have the opportunities I have. They also tell me that their classes are really easy. If you go to an AACSB business school, you will get the same education anywhere. That is the truth. I've been in college for 3 years, and know from others that my education is just as good as those from Boston College or Boston University. You follow the rankings too much. Don't!!!!!Go to the school that has the better connections or speciality programs. Those really are the only things that separates schools. When you are in college you will understand.

what exactly are your friends majoring? If they are majoring in english/poli sci/sociology, its probably the same **** everywhere. The fact that you are at Uconn indicates that you probably are a inferior student to your friends at Michigan. They say its easy, but i don't know if you will. I ask this, because there is no way Uconn is better than Michigan at anything academically. I'm about to graduate from Michigan next year.

They are finance majors like me. Haha, inferior huh? All our programs are not as good? You sound like a fool. Ever think that the reason some students go to uconn is because they can't afford to go to another school? Students in the business school at uconn had a 3.5 or higher in high school and above a 1250 on their SAT's. For an instate student, if you choose Michigan over UConn you are either a fool or belong to a well to do family. I don't pay anything in tuition for uconn. I hope nobody ever accused you of being humble.
