Hi everyone
I was just curious as to whether or not I should pursue a degree in engineering. I have always enjoyed maths and science and have a passion and propensity for it. I am considering going into either chemical or aerospace engineering. However as a child I never built stuff or played with lego. Seeing as engineers are supposed to build stuff this has put doubt in my mind.
Your help will be greatly appreciated
You’re lack of experience in Legos will not be the reason you do not succeed in engineering. Trust me.
If you’re interested in engineering, look into the job descriptions. Look into current company projects to see what they’re doing and if it interests you. Look into university curriculums and course descriptions to see if the courses pique your interest or are tolerable.
Math and science knowledge are one of the keys to doing well in engineering, but also being able to visualize the processes in your field is key. For instance, I am a structural engineer and being to understand the load paths in a structure is key to understanding how that structure works. Building with Legos might help with that but by no means does it insure that one can understand the load paths nor does not building with Legos mean you can’t.
If you have the passion for a particular field then go for it.
You should major in something you’re passionate about and know your capabilities (aka would do and wouldn’t do). Research about specialties before diving into the deep waters.
