Should I go on this trip to Europe?

I really want to go on this 9 day trip with my French class to France, Belgium, and Switzerland next summer. The trip costs $3,000, and I would have to pay half ($1500.) I have never had a job, and I probably won't be able to get one. This trip would totally drain me financially, and I would be broke afterwards. However, this is really something that I want to do, and I have realized that I need to start living life to its fullest.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

(The trip is in June of 2008, btw) :)

It depends, is there something else you would need money for?

In February, I'm going on the French exchange to Perigueux, France. It's for three weeks, and it'll be the first time I'll have been on a plane, ever, let alone crossed an ocean. I've considered the daunting aspects of it, and decided I have to do it, or else I'll regret it. It too is a money drain, but like you said, it's good to try and live life to the fullest. As a world language and culture enthusiast, I say go.

I went on a trip last year to Paris, London, and Barcelona. At least 3-5 of my friends went along with more people that I knew.

It was amazing. One of the best experiences I've had. I love Europe--the culture and history is just so fascinating, and the cities are so different from like NYC and all because of the architecture and art and everything.
I got to know a lot of people better and hanging out in the hotel was really fun, and we actually got a lot of freedom. We'd just have to meet back at a certain place at a certain time so we could go shopping or to lunch with our friends.

I would say to go I think. Going on that trip made me want to either go to college or at least study abroad in London.

Since it's something you really want to do, I'd say go for it!!!! (Unless you really need the money for something else.)

nah dude go with a friend and backpack. tours are really dumb and overpriced

maybe u should wait
work hard AND THEN live life to its fullest :)

Question: How old are you? And is this money your personal savings or from your parents? [Namely, would it be the burden for you or you parents?]

If money is an issue, why not just go to the Paris of Latin America -- Tijuana.

$3,000 for nine days is certainly not worth it. Sure, you'll stay at a three or four star hotel, and everything will be pre-planned for you, but that sucks the joy out of it all, doesn't it? Wait a while, maybe get a job, save some money, and plan your own Eurotrip.

If you do decide to go take a side trip to where I live - Zürich Switzerland.

Great place to take a trip to. Great scenery/people .

bump

Thanks for the advice guys--keep it coming! I'm still split on whether I should go on the trip or not.

I think trips like these while you're in high school are amazing opportunities to see the world.

You may not get an opportunity like this again. I'd say go.

I've never been invited to anything overseas (well I got invited to PeopletoPeople earlier this summer but I was already committed to something else), but I've had to decide between traveling to places within the US or doing things I know would be amazing right here in my hometown, and I always choose to travel, if for no other reason than because it's good for anyone to get out of their comfort zone once in a while.

I decided that I am going to go on the trip! It's something that I want to do, and I'm gonna go for it!

Yay!!! Felicitations!

^ Merci beaucoup! :)
