Should I go SOAR

I am a transfer student from LA. is it worth going to SOAR. It will cost $75. I think its a bit expensive. I never been the the campus before and will be enrolling in the Fall. However, i didn’t know it would cost money for orientation. does anyone know if the we can get the info online. thanks!

You are not required to go, I believe.

SOAR is optional, but going is highly recommended.
Even though it has a fee to it, but it covers your lunch and the chance to register your class with your major advisor. That means that if you have any questions, it can be answered right away. You will get a walk-through on how the registration system works. It can also be a good opportunity for you to get to know some people who may be your peers when Fall Quarter starts! If you have not been on the campus before, it would also be a great opportunity to wonder around to get to know your way around (opposed to reading a map on the first day of lecture). I am also a transfer student from the Bay Area, and I will be going to SOAR.

thanks johnnny and smallpotato. i thought about that too. i think it will be best to attend to get all my answers right away and get classes register so i wont be in a headache. but since my orientation will begin early morning like 8am, that means im gonna have to spend money to stay over night and rent a motel or something.

I’m also a transfer student from the L.A. area, and i will be attending SOAR. Does anybody know if the books for our classes will be available on that day?

Housing is available on campus for soar, $52.50 for an apartment room. Here is the link for more info… [SOAR Housing 2010 Rates and Accommodations](http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/soar_rates.cfm) Probably more affordable than your own motel room, and you might get to meet some classmates.

^If my daughter was a transfer student or going To SOAR alone as a freshman, I know she would take that option.
