Ok so heres my situation. Im a freshmen here at UCR and well ya enough said why I want to transfer. anyway so I heard of people going to a CC after their first quarter. So ya I want to transfer to any uc besides UCM and UCSC. Im currently a math major and I dont think math is impacted at any UC school (correct me if Im wrong). So my question is, should I stay here at UCR for two years and try to transfer or go to a CC after my first quarter is over? Will I stll be eligible for TAG contracts? Reason why I asked this question is Im trying to be an Optometrist (same med-reqs) but dont know if going to a CC will hurt me. So ya any suggestions?

If its tolerable at UCR, stay. From what I've seen on these boards lower UC's like UCM and UCR and UCSC act sorta like feeders. I would imagine Admissions Officers would understand why someone would want to transfer higher up. In short: stay if you know you can get a high GPA, get UC recip, and transfer. If you really can't stand it there, think its a huge waste of money, and think you might get something lower than a 3.4-3.5 then go to a CC. and yeah its possible to go to a CC after your first quarter, but start enrolling soon if you have your mind set on it, and you can also get TAG as long as you finish your courses on time, so it may require you to go to summer school.

If you're dead set on transferring up, than do it. But be ON TOP of things, because at CC you're much more independent, you have to do everything for yourself. Obviously your CC IGETC list will help you fulfill what is needed to transfer, but theres more than that including pre-req for majors for different schools, etc.
