Should I go to a CC?

So cost is a concern for my family, although it's not too bad. I'm committed to Michigan State next year, which will be about 12K per year for me. A community college will be free for me. If I want to transfer to a top business school, should I go to a CC? I would most likely be able to get into MSU no matter what from a CC.

The reason i'm asking is because i've heard colleges give advantages to CC applicants in admissions, because they want to reach out to lower income brackets, and a CC transfer helps diversify their school. Would a CC actually help me in transfer admissions, or would I be better off going to MSU, and using the "prestigious university" hook in transfer admissions? Would a 4.0 from a CC or a near 4.0 from MSU look better?

When you say "top business school," you mean an undergrad business program?

since ur instate for Ross, see if ur community college has any transfer programs with U Mich-Ann Arbor. Otherwise, it'l probably look better if u do well at MSU vs Community College.

Yes, undergraduate business program.

I'll check on Ross. I heard that admissions were uber-competitive for Ross, and that they rarely took any external transfers, so I wasn't thinking there. And they've already waitlisted me once, I don't give myself much of a chance there.

Uber??? Isn't that german?

It was German, now it's just trendy

uber is German, it's literal translation is over, but it can also be used as "about" in some cases. It is probably the most misused German word by Americans. No offense to the OP, but people really abuse it and don't even understand it's use in German and they are just like, "oh it's German so it sounds scary."

Great... i've gotted 3 replies about one word I said, and 2 posts trying to help, lol.

LOL, sorry. I started it. Ummmmmmm, i don't see how getting really good grades at a CC there would make it harder for you to transfer to a top business school. You would be going because you are poor (so am i) not dumb. But i dont know how an ivy university would look at it. My knowledge of transfering is limited to schools in CA. I never in my life considered moving out of this state. Someone plz help this poor man.

I would contact the schools you are interested in and ask. Different schools have different approaches to CCs. But I have to say that if you are talking about private schools, I bet that MSU will look better.

hahha pihip

I'm not poor, rather cheap. I have the money to spend, i'm just trying to find a reason to spend it. And if i'm going to transfer, why go to another school over a CC?

Ross has a lot of respect for Michigan State. I know quite a few people who transferred from BROAD to Ross with 3.6 GPA's.

You need to understand that if you're serious about transferring, going to MSU conditional to the fact that you can score close to a 3.6+ at Broad will by far maximize your chances of getting into Ross.

But like I said Broad is quite a challenging school.

I have heard from my good friends there that life is amazing at MSU. Students there are among the happiest. It's got rigorous academics but also a wonderful social campus life. If I was you, I would without a doubt go to MSU.
