Well I'm not sure on what I should do. I wanted to go to UCLA because it would be the only UC I would be able to afford because I would still be living with my family so I wouldn't have to pay for the housing expenses. I got denied to UCLA, but I got accepted to UCI and UCSC. I've been browsing the internet trying to see what would be the best choice: to go to UCI (which is about an hour drive) and then try to transfer, or go to a community college and then transfer. The reason I'm asking this is because I've heard that they give priorities to CC transfers, and I'm not sure if they do for UCs. So what would be the better option? And if the better choice would be to go to a CC, then what would be good options? Thank you.

Is your CC is a good one? If it is not, I’d say go to UCI just for the sake of your education and sanity.

You could buy a motorcycle, get better gas mileage than a hybrid or diesel, and cut a lot of time off your commute by filtering. Get an SV650, an FZ6, or a Bandit, they’re pretty good all around and very inexpensive used with low miles. It’ll make it relatively cheap to go to UCI and make that long drive.

Well I haven’t thought about any CC’s to go to, the closest one to me is LACC which is about a 10 minute walk from my house, but I don’t know how good their transfer rate is. I could also go to SMC which I’ve heard has a pretty good transfer rate into UCLA. Other than those 2 I am totally clueless on CCs. And about the motorcycle… I’m not too big a fan of them.

UCI. After you take a class in statistics, you won’t to comute on that motorcycle.

Ask your question on the UC Transfer forum:

I think preference for transferring to UCs goes to CCCs over UCs, but am not positive.

It sound like money is a big factor. You can certainly save a lot by going to SMC and transferring. Maybe you should visit the two CCs and talk to the counselors there before deciding.
UCI is a very good school, but commuting from L.A. every day would be very hard. You might look into finding a room mate or two to share an inexpensive place in Costa Mesa or Irvine, but it would no doubt still cost more than living at your parent’s. You’ll have to look at the cost realistically and do what makes sense.

Im pretty sure that Californian CC programs have guaranteed admissions to any UC as long as you maintain above a certain gpa for two years… but don’t quote me on that.
