Should I go to college or work my way up in construction?

First i'm not sure this is the right forum for this, sorry i couldn't find anything that fit what i was looking for, and I don't know a better site to check out either.
I currently have been working in road construction for 2.5 years and I like the work, but i do eventually want to be more than just an equipment operator someday. I've thought about going to college for construction management, but I seen a post on FB a couple of weeks ago from a friend that just went back to college and it got me to wondering. I've been thinking about settling down with one company and just working my way up the ladder, I know foremen and superintendents that have worked their way up(don't work at that company anymore or i would talk to them about this) but what about higher up the food chain? Like is a degree required for to be a project superintendent and all that or will years of experience get me there? Cause if working my way up that high will get me there then that doesn't bother me one bit. I'm 24 married and 2 kids, got my family to think about, but my career is also something i'm seeking information about for advancement.

Can you look for job listings for the positions you eventually want to get to and see what they require?
