Should I go to FIDM or a regular university?

I want to be a fashion buyer, or something in the fashion industry. I have heard that I could go straight to FIDM after high school(I live in SoCal) and major in fashion merchandising or I could get a degree in maybe business at a regular university and go to FIDM after to specialize in my major. Or I could just go to a regular university. I'm not sure the way I should go. I have a 4.0 and am taking AP classes so I could probably get into a good university. What would better prepare me for a job after college and most importantly GET me a job?

I'm still a sophomore so do you have any advice on what I could do during my time in high school?(classes, activities, etc). Thanks

In that business connections and interning are all important. I’d hate to see you have such a narrow focus. Can you find a program where you can get the good academics that will see you to a broader range of jobs but the programs where you can get internships? NYU type colleges?

Look here, yes fidm is here

Internships for HS students might be hard to find but you can try. Google around. Try magazine writing.

Would it be possible to contact people already in the industry and ask them what they recommend? I recall FIDM going to my high school a number of times and trying to “sell” the school (IIRC, they go to classes where most students are headed off to the local CC, not a four year). I’d make sure to thoroughly investigate the claims FIDM makes. Some of them are, to say the least, overly generous.

Get the business degree.
Trust me your future self who is NOT destitute because she had something to fall back on after she realized how over-saturated the fashion industry is with young, unemployed fashion school graduates will thank you.

Its like saying “I want to be a Hollywood Movie Star…”

Supply far outstrips demand

FIDM is mostly a scam. If you want to start a clothesing line or something along those lines, go be successful elsewhere and then use your money to launch. FDIMs don’t provide you with the actual opportunities or skill sets to run a business.
