Should I go to Lehigh? I have some concerns

I was admitted to Lehigh's class of 2018, and more specifically the IBE program. The IBE program is by far the most selective program I have been admitted to (trying to decide between this, Wake, W&M, and Villanova). My main interest is in finance but engineering also intrigues me and I'm strong in math and physics. However I have some concerns:

1)IBE program will be too difficult. I'm a strong student, both in my work ethic and aptitude, I just feel very unprepared. I come from a very weak HS, it has not been challenging at all even with a schedule packed with APs. I received an A all throughout AP calc and then only got a 3 on the test, another student (salutatorian) had an even higher grade in the class and only received a 2 on the test. I'm worried I will be the runt of the litter compared to the other IBE students. When I visited Lehigh every IBE student said the program is really challenging and rigorous but they really like it.

2) The Greek life. This kind of ties in to #1. Lehigh is known for having its social life controlled by the Greek community. At any other school I would join Greek life, but I am worried the IBE program will be too time consuming to join. I feel like I'll have to be choosing between succeeding academically or having a good social life. However I've heard there are more tame and easy going frats not on the hill, can anyone speak of these?

3) The IBE program is restrictive. Lehigh doesn't seem to endorse study abroad the way other schools do. They pretty much said unless you come in with lots of APs or study abroad in the summer, you'll fall behind. Another thing is that IBE students only take 3 electives the entire 4 years.

I know these seem really negative but these are my 3 big concerns, I have countless of things I loved about Lehigh, and the IBE program seems incredible if I can manage it. I have to decide in 5 days so any advice or input into anything Lehigh would be appreciated.

It is a difficult program, without a doubt. That being said, there are enough academic resources on campus to help you if you feel you’re deficient in some area (tutoring center, math help center, office hours, review sessions, etc).

There are definitely IBE kids in greek life that seem to balance it fine. And yes, there are some houses that party 4-5+ days a week and some that party 1-3 times per week. Greek life will also provide additional academic support in the form of study hours when you’re a pledge and access to the house test bank.

Can’t really speak to your third point.

Overall, it’s a great program. IBE gets extra looks from recruiters and places well in finance. Best of luck with your decision.

IBE is hard, but they wouldn’t have accepted you to the program if they didn’t think you had the knowledge and smarts to succeed or at least put yourself in a position to do well. There are people in IBE that are involved in Greek life, or on sports teams. They are doing well. It’s all about time management and making sure that you find a good work to “play” balance.

I’m just finishing up at Lehigh. I was highly involved in Greek Life, club sports, as well as IBE.

You’ll be just fine. Do it, you won’t regret it. You’ll be more successful than you ever imagined.
