I would like to attend either of these camps. I looked through them and found HCSSiM better. I despise number theory and I don't want to be just doing math the whole time. For that matter. HCSSiM is better, right? I want to go to MIT but which camp is more prestigious and well known for MIT?

If you despise number theory, then HCSSIM is probably better, but if you don’t want to be just doing math then both are really not for you because you are going to be doing a LOT of math at both of these camps. Also have you applied, it is not a given that you get in, the admission process is pretty selective. I believe MIT deadlines have passed for most of their programs next summer so that is probably not possible.

I mean, I am ok with doing a LOT of math, but not doing it straight for like 10 hours with nothing else to do. I personally like HCSSIM better, too. When I said MIT admissions, I meant how good is HCSSIM compared to Ross or PROMYS for when I apply to MIT. I am a freshman in high school. I haven’t applied to any of them yet. Any other thoughts?

I think all the programs will look very similar to MIT. These are essentially programs that accept mainly math geniuses, not one program is a standout above and beyond the other, IMO. If you are a freshman, you probably won’t get into these programs until the summer after junior year, so you have plenty of time until then. Again, just to be clear, from what I heard, you will be doing a lot of math, 10 hours a day of math is not uncommon if you count the problem sets you need to do after class time. There are other activities that you will be doing, but there will be times that you will doing that much math in a day.

Ok, thank you! I will apply anyways, and see.

From what I’ve heard PROMYS is nearly 100% number theory. That’s kind of the point of the camp.

Still though, I doubt you’ve actually learned any real number theory (bases/mods don’t count), so keep your mind open (if you have learned extensive number theory, you’d be better off going to HCSSIM anyways)

Anyone else?
