UCSD is very well known for biology and medicine. I would pick UCSD. A friend of my son's turned down Dartmouth for UCSD because of their medical program. It's outstanding!

Yes, Stanford is as well known as HYPSM...
@ guitars101: UCSD may be well known for biology/medicine but it is still ranked 38th by USNews as compared to 4th? hmm, prestige much?

They should rename it to HSPMY...or SHPMY...but yeah stanford >>> UCSD. I actually know someone who rejected stanford for a medical scholars program at San Diego State, but since that =/= UCSD then stanford FTW.

I wonder about the life that some of those medical scholars have...

if you go to ucsd over stanford you will receive a certificate in the mail indicating that you are officially mentally challenged...lol duh it's a no brainer.

So is Stanford really a prestigious school and is well known?
... Are you not from the U.S. or something?

^ No I am just ignorant. To be honest, I never really was into schools.

this is what ****es me off about college admissions...thousands of well qualified applicants are denied to their dream schools to make room for people like this who are absolutely clueless. seriously you must live with your head up your ass to not know whether stanford is better than ucsd/if stanford is a prestigious school.

true, i may be absolutely clueless, but i wouldn't get in if i was not qualified. i don't think being aware of school prestige is necessary in contributing one's talents to a university. i worked extremely hard in high school and feel that i do deserve my acceptance
guess what so did the other 20,000 kids who were denied...so why should you deserve it more than them?

dukebluedevils is being quite harsh. she's not saying that she deserves it more than others, she is simply stating how she got into stanford. the question is, why do you think that she doesn't deserve it? you probably got rejected from stanford and are bitter about it.

I think she would actually deserve it more than the other 20,000 if she was able to be admitted without playing to the colleges' interests and doing worthless EC's and all that. And it isn't like Stanford is the perfect place for everyone, I'm sure that the OP could be equally as happy and/or successful at UCSD. Stanford is a great option to have, and I'm sure OP made a great choice, but it isn't like it as obvious of a decision... Idk, if dukebluedevils is at stanford I wouldn't want to go there. Not that I could, since I got rejected...

i agree with applesauce. if dukebluedevils is a student at stanford, i dont think i would want to go with people like him there.

Lilly, congrats on your decision, and don't worry, you're safe-- duke is going to cal, so you won't have to deal with him

basically saying
harvard or arizona stae

why do you guys feel you have to defend every single sap story on cc? i've got a news flash for you, that's not how it works in the real world and ignorance is not considered a redeeming quality. i'm not trying to be overly insensitive and if you actually knew me in real life instead of just on a internet forum, you'd realize i'm actually a very friendly person. idk maybe the fact that i did get rejected from stanford, my dream school, does make me bitter and if so i apologize for that. however, i just can't fathom the fact that someone can get into stanford without knowing anything about it. again, i apologize for my aggressive tone, i'll admit that's definitely due to my bitterness about stanford and don't take it personally.

that's not entirely true since we're right across the bay from one another and are rival schools. also the big game is at cal this year so get ready to be dominated. GO BEARS!

whoa whoa I feel some sort of elitism emanating iamtooperfect and applesauce... so what if bluedevils's rejected from stanford... and applesauce deciding where to go to college based on some random post on internet forum is indeed very good decision making (even when you have to dig some users post history to know that)... man

well BlueDevils, I kinda feel for you. Admissions to college is so random these days, sometimes people who're really passionate about their dream school get rejected and while people who're clueless get accepted. But that's life man.. it was, is and never will be fair. hope you're enjoying berkeley. Don't be too bitter about rejection.

who cares that USNWR ranks Stanford above UCSD. The rank is done by ALL majors not just comparing the medical programs. The medical program at UCSD is outstanding and very well known and prestigious. I have no ties to UCSD I'm just stating a fact that I know from articles I have read and if you notice magazine articles that quote research programs UCSD is always mentioned.

UCSD is a public school and Stanford is private. Private schools are usually ranked higher than public schools.

So what if people who are "clueless" about the schools get in and those who are passionate about their dream school don't? There's a grander number of kids who are clueless and get rejected, and those who are passionate and get in.

C'mon, bluedevil. I know you are bitter, but that is no excuse to vent your frustrations on a forum. And please do not pontificate your views on how "the world works." You have no more experience than do we. In fact, this "real world," I believe-or at least hope-works on more or less a system of merit. Qualifications are more important than how much you want it. Just because I want the Nobel prize and have been dreaming about it since I was 5 does not make me eligible to obtain it. That is life.

^wow great example, i didn't realize you had to be qualified to receive a nobel prize. oh and really, you're saying you only get as much as you earn...i thought everything was just handed to you on a silver platter. thanks for enlightening me...not. i wouldn't get your hopes up for that nobel prize.
