So I'm a freshman, my grades are A's and B's and I was valedictorian in middle school. I attend a program known as the HGM or Highly gifted Magnet. Only about 300 high school students in LA are given the privilege to attend this school and to do so you must have a IQ of over 145 and maintain good grades. I'm taking 3 honors and 1 AP freshman year and 2AP and 4 honors sophomore year. The HGM program has an acceptance rate of about 50% to any given UC and students in the program have been accepted to over 150 other universities in the last year alone including harvard, prinston, stanford, yale ect.

Any way, my question is: I want to be a doctor and I'm considering choices between UCLA UC Berkley and Stanford. I really don't want to leave LA and Im kinda leaning toward UCLA. So, which school do you recommend and why? and also, what are the perks of UCLA? Also will joining the football team help my chances? Or joining more clubs? Please help :)

You still have a long way before you have to worry about college stuff. If I were you, I would stay away from these forums for the next 2-3 years and concentrate more on converting more of those B’s to A’s. Seriously. If you do that, not just UCLA - even Stanford will be there fore you.

Being realistic here but don’t worry about it. Like the above stay COMPLETELY away from this site until you’ve researched everything by yourself that way people on here who are actually in their undergrad already and really do need advice can get their info first. But to soften that blow here are some tips:

-You’re a freshman. Enjoy highschool, take as many AP courses (I took 11 total earning 4s and 5s) as you can so you’ll understand it better in college when you’re learning the exact same thing again.
-Do your own research about becoming a doctor. Volunteer for it and face the reality that while it is rewarding, it is NOT an easy field and EXTREMELY demanding.
-Always have a backup plan. As smart as you seem right now (and you seem pretty smart to me mind you, no sarcasm) alternative fields in medicine might be what you want later on. What kindo of doctor? Sports medicine? Osteopathic? Optometric? Pharmacy? Dental?
As mean as I sound right now, I just want to give you some affirmation:

-You’ll go far, keep pushing your academics. But be humble.
