I am a senior in high school and have gotten in the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and University of Toledo. I am intending on pursuing the pre-med track regardless of where I go. In order to get into med school, I heard I need to maintain a good GPA. I also heard Umich is notoriously a GPA killer.
Does anyone know if it is any harder for me to maintain a proper GPA (3.5+) in Toledo than Umich? For refrence, I maintained a GPA of 4.00 throughout high school while doing the IB diploma.
Also, a little side note, I got accepted into a medical program in Toledo called Bacc2MD which means I have a guaranteed interview for their med school after my second year there while having a 3.5+ and wanted to know if that is advantageous in any way over the prestige of Umich?
Congratulations. Is there a financial difference. These days I hear a 3.8 is what medical schools are looking for.

It’s a very interesting program and they don’t look at the mcat scores. Can you find stats on the acceptance rate for people doing this program?
Michigan is a tough school even for the best students. They accepted you for a reason and they think you can succeed.
Maybe do a Facebook on both programs and see what you can find out.
Good Luck.
I do not think a guaranteed interview to one med school is a compelling reason for one to choose to spend 4 years of their life at one university over another.
All depends where you want to go to med school. If you are fine with the Medical College associated with Toledo or NEOMED then save your money and got to Toledo. If you want something more prestigious and have more opportunities then go to Michigan- but that will cost you a lot more money and effort. Ann Arbor has a lot more to offer in terms of just a general college experience though over Toledo.
Toledo does have a Chick Fil A.
and Tony Packo’s…My wife and I graduated from Toledo but my daughter is currently at Michigan. No comparison, but you will have to work harder and spend more money at Michigan. The experience you get in Ann Arbor is just incomparable to Toledo. The city of Toledo has also gone down hill in general. Housing there has still not recovered from 2008 even though it has in most of the other larger cities in Ohio. UT is still nice though, great campus that has expanded since we graduated there 20 years ago and from what I know most of the programs are still pretty consistent. Toledo is way better campus than the windy orange brink infected campus 30 miles south
To maintain a high GPA, try to avoid the ‘weeder’ classes, or take them over the summer at a different college. A very large number of students who think they want to go to med school change their mind, and a Michigan degree will be a greater asset than UToledo.
@miipro1234 Best place to ask this question is in “Thread for BSMD Applicants 2019”

There are several expert parents/students on BS/MD programs
@miipro1234 - My son is in a similar situation. Curious to know what you decided eventually? Can you share if possible?
