Should I go to University of Oregon or University of San Diego? HELP!

I'm not sure which to attend. I want to get the best education possible that will help me most in the long run while still being able to have a good social life. I'd like to major in business, both schools have notable business programs. Which has a better reputation/more respected academically?

To start, I must admit that I know a lot more about USD than U of Oregon, so I’m probably not too much help on UO. Sorry!

What I do know is that USD is known specifically for their business program. While it is not known all over the world, it is very well-known throughout CA, which would be very helpful if that is where you are planning to live & work after college. Most USD students have very active social lives & enjoy living in the 2nd largest city in CA. I’m not sure if you have visited, but it has a beautiful campus, a close proximity to fun activities like the city, Mission Beach, & Balboa Park. It has a small school feel, which is a positive for some & a negative for others.

Overall, I think U of Oregon is more well-known throughout the country, but USD has a better business program (ranked 24th). Your decision should probably revolve around fit, cost, location, & where you want to work in the future.

Which one would be less expensive?

If you’re going to live in California, USD has a better reputation. It is also more selective to get into than U of O. And it’s much smaller, so you’re likely to get more personal attention.

And do not discount the rain factor! I’m a SoCal native who went to U of O. Eugene is beautiful, and U of O has much to recommend it, but I came running back to LA (USC) after two years. I couldn’t take the rain.

I live in CA (LA) and I’ve heard of U of O more than USD.

Are you instate for Oregon?

Have your parents given you a budget limitation? Are both affordable?

Have you visited both schools?

If you are Out-of-State for Oregon, your tuition/fees/room/board next year will be $37,000 (assuming a $2,000 increase over this year). The same at University of San Diego would be about $55,000 - Scholarship grant - financial aid.

You can’t know which is less expensive without having the grants and financial aid offers from USD. Also, there are some scholarships available at Oregon for OOS students, but I don’t know the details and it appears the Dean’s Scholarship is the largest but that maxes out at $7,000 per year.

I think quality wise it’s close enough you should choose by other factors from weather to big-time sports–whatever is important to you. I do know UO has a nice new business school building and it has a good rep in the Northwest. I’d guess both are recruited by regional firms so also where do you want to work?

DunninLA- Assuming the OP is from CA, they would qualify for WUE.

Business is not a valid major at Oregon for WUE.

Finally an application of the WUE reciprocity program? In state tuition for Oregon looks to be ~ $8K, with the WUE program it’d be $12K or so, if applicable.

Oregon has made some lists for undervalued education.

Oregon’s success of its fb team could be drawing more people in for those who like collegiate sports and school spirit.

All these could be reasons why there is a large increase in CA applicants/matriculants to Oregon, even if the OP isn’t from CA. I’m guessing she may be.

There is seen by this link to Palos Verdes HS showing [17 students](http://www.pvhigh.com/CCC/pdf/CCC_Student_Profile_2010.pdf) from the high school choosing Oregon, which appears to be third only to UCLA’s 23 and USC’s 21 in 2010. The same can be said of Dunn’s link to Palos Verdes Peninsula HS, and a lot of other CA hss.

Also, I love their school adds. [This one]( <a href=“Check out this UO commercial - YouTube”>Check out this UO commercial - YouTube) is still my favorite college ad, but [this one’s](<a href=“Be Bold: The University of Oregon - YouTube”>Be Bold: The University of Oregon - YouTube) not bad either because they’re both quirky.

I think Oregon is starting to displace Arizona and ASU with some of the Californians headed out of state.

I don’t believe U of Oregon participates in WUE anymore.

According to the WUE website they do but they don’t accept transfers: [WICHE - Student Exchange Programs](http://wue.wiche.edu/profile.jsp?id=107)

^ if you call capping it at 25 students each year participation… I guess they participate :)

And they don’t accept WUE from California.

Ah, missed that line.

i think they don’t accept from Calif because Calif UCs don’t do WUE.
