Should i go to UofM or Notre Dame?!

This is probably an incredibly biased place to get opinions, but nonetheless...

So i got into ND and UM, I'm instate for UofM. I'm thinking about majoring in political science or business. I've grown up a diehard notre dame fan my whole life, but AA is way better than south bend, blah blah blah each have their own advantages. I'm not outsourcing my college decision, I just want to know, what do the wise people of CC think?

Financial aid isn't an issue

Thanks!

michigan .

Ann Arbor is definitely better than South Bend.
Our business program is definitely better than theirs.
Instate -> less tuition

I don’t know, I would go with Michigan unless you have some other reason to go to ND

If you watched the last few seconds of the night game vs ND this year, you already have your answer.

Come to Michigan with me :0

Lol

Did you apply to Duke?

If you’re a die hard domer and cost isn’t an issue, you can’t go wrong with either. U-M > Notre Dame for both poli sci and business and Ann Arbor > South Bend and IS tuition > private tuition but both have strong alumni networks. I think a lot of it depends whether your “die hard” status extends beyond sports and where you have a better fit.

While financial aid isn’t an issue, I’m sure your parents would be happy to save 30K per year while you attend a school with comparable if not superior academics/reputation than ND.

If it helps, 79% of those admitted to both choose ND over Umich.

<a href=“Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.”>Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.;

Academic quality is very similar among the two. You should choose ND if academic reputation/prestige matters to you. ND has a higher SAT/ACT score mean and lower acceptance rate.

To be fair, I’ve never been to ND before, but I’d assume that the atmosphere is vastly different than Umich culturally(Correct me if I’m wrong). For the most part, ND is white, conservative, and Catholic. UMich is very liberal and diverse( it truly represents the term “melting pot”). However, neither are bad.

what do you guys think about an engineering major…out of state for both…who was accepted to both schools? btw i plan on looking to go into consulting or some sort of business eventually so how much should i take prestige into account…and which school would be considered more prestigious???

Michigan is infinitely more prestigious when it comes to engineering (and business, though that’s not my area.) You should definitely stick to Michigan in your case.

For the OP though, if cost is not an issue and he’s been a big ND fan, I think ND might be a better fit.

“Academic quality is very similar among the two. You should choose ND if academic reputation/prestige matters to you.”

Actually you should choose Michigan if ACADEMIC PRESTIGE matters to you. Michigan is the superior ACADEMIC school of the two based on the quality of faculty and departments. ND might be more prestigious based on the quality of it’s slightly more selective student body.

Hate to say it on this forum, but I would pick ND over Michigan if money is not an issue.
I know students who have gone to both and I would say that the ND students had a more fulfulling experience from everything I have heard.

^^I suppose the experience would perhaps be more fulfilling if one is a devout Catholic and one wants the uniqueness of a schoo like ND. I certainly can understand that. Still, if one is looking at both schools in terms of PRESTIGE in engineering or business, Michigan is the better choice.

Michigan Engineering is better and it doesn’t matter if you’re out of state for ND. It’s private. So cost isn’t a factor either. In state for Michigan is a no brainer.

While Michigan is more prestigious than ND worldwide, it is not really more prestigious in our area. This might have something to do with the fact that 20+ from a class of 220 have already been accepted to Michigan. I think there is no bad choice.

which school of the two has better placement for top consulting and IB jobs?

Just go to Michigan. They’re both great schools, but why go to Notre Dame when its three times as expensive?

Zier9993 I think I recognize you from the uofm fb group haha

ND for Business and UofM for anything else. But then again, Michigan is just as good of a school as ND. I’d chose Michigan, only becuase you’re in-state.

despite rankings and what not, I’m not convinced ND’s bschool is better than ross.
