should I go to Yale or MIT?

I want to be a Mechanical/Aeronautics engineer. I like hands on classes rather than just lectures but it's not like I can't stand lectures ( I actually enjoy them a bit). I want to be able to get a job within walking/biking distance so I can go to work without causing pollution. I don't really care how good the school looks on a job application, I just want an education that works for me. I would also like to continue working on my art technique, so the art program could potentially be a deciding factor. I have already heard a bunch of good stuff about these schools, I mean, they both sent me their little promotional phamplets, so I have already seen the sugar coated stuff, I want pros and cons if possible.

For engineering, MIT. Yale is not known for MechE/Aeronatics. Though you would probably get a great education at Yale too, MIT has a much higher caliber of engineer.

MIT, however, is not known for humanities, but does offer programs in them. If you do want to continue with art, it will probably take the backseat to engineering at MIT, though you certainly can take a couple of classes in the field.

Your title is misleading. Should’ve been “should I apply to…” :P

Anyways, you can always apply to both schools. But MIT sounds better for you if ever you get admitted.

Edit: unless your promotional pamphlets are acceptance letters…

Sheesh, get in both schools first - then we’ll talk.

^ ^ ^ What Melody said!!!

Very, very few applicants ever get the chance to decide between MIT and Yale. Remember, the schools pick you, and not the other way around!

Instead of devoting your time and energy to picking your dream school, you should be focusing on your safety schools. Find schools that have the program you want, that you KNOW you can get into, that you’d be happy to attend, and that you can AFFORD.

That’s like asking, should I be a movie star of a rock star?

MIT if you want to become an engineer

Melody is right on the money- I would focus on getting in before stressing out on which one would be better.
