Should I go?

I'm currently a student at Tufts and I got accepted as a transfer to UNC-CH as a sophomore transfer. Basically, should I go? I'm a econ major, but I'm not from NC and I don't know anyone there. I was really unhappy here because of the winter and how small it was, and it didn't feel like a typical college experience, but at the same time I'm nervous about entering a new place as a sophomore when people already have established friend groups, etc. Thanks for the input

If your only concern is making friends, I think you should consider transferring. It’s really not that difficult, and many schools have great transfer programs that allow you to meet other transfers and have a student adviser help you around. I don’t go to UNC, but I’m sure they have the resources to make your transition as smooth as possible. And as a sophomore, it will be even easier. You’ll have three years at UNC, whereas most transfers only have two (it’s considerably less difficult to transfer as a junior for students with low high school grades, but that probably wasn’t the case for you if you got into Tufts ;)).

Good luck!

I’ve heard that UNC-CH is a friendly campus, and a large one at that. Making friends should not be a big issue so long as you’re involved in communities on or off campus (even just frequenting the same coffee shop can help you get to know people). The university also produces great scholarship. I say you follow your heart and intuition. You will get a great education at either school, but the winters will definitely be milder in UNC. Good luck.

I was accepted to UNC as a sophomore as well! I don’t think that it is a big deal not knowing anyone there. In fact I think that will be exciting. I’m pretty sure I’m going to live on campus. I think I want to live in Morrison as it doesn’t really matter to me whether I have freshmen or sophomore friends.
