Here’s the thing:
I live in ATL, Ga. I am scheduled to go visit and interview at PA on Jan.4.2018, but there will possibly be a heavy snow shower and strong wind. I am worrying that the admission office would close, and the flight would be canceled. I am given the option to reschedule, cancel or keep the appointment. What should I do?
The admissions office will be open, but the flight is another story. When are you flying in and to which airport?
I personally would cancel if rescheduling isn’t an issue.
Have you seen the campus yet? If yes, you could probably do a SKYPE interview.
The snow problem might be more significant on the ATL end, if it snows there, because the airport may not be able to manage snow quickly. Probably not a big deal on the BOS end unless the snowstorm is major - how many inches are forecasted on each end?
I’ve been following the weather for Thursday travel, too and it looks like snow and 40 MPH wind gusts. The wind bothers me more than the snow. Normally, I’d say go for it but it’s not worth risking life or limb for a BS interview… Plus, I’ve witnessed people from the south driving in snow… so there’s that image in my head.
On the other hand… if you did pull it off you’d give " demonstrated interest " new meaning!
Are you flying up just for PA only or did you schedule more schools during a longer stay? FWIW- Friday looks better weather wise- maybe fly up on the 4th and get to a hotel safely and then interview on Friday?
@BigBlueSwim I am flying from Hartsfield Jackson to Logan airport.
I haven’t seen the PA campus yet, and I am flying up just for PA. Also, it probably won’t snow in ATL.
Another major thing is that I have no experience with snow, and it’s going to be really cold (for me anyway).
No- It has been very, very cold lately even for hardcore New Englanders. I spent NYE in VT and the thermostat in our old house wouldn’t climb past 63 degrees. I was ready to burn furniture. Outside temps have been below zero lately and 20 degrees would be considered balmy right now … and I love snow and cold weather!
The best thing that you can do is bundle up and embrace it! Safe travels ( if possible- get an all wheel drive rental car and take it really slow… or find a shuttle service with SUVs ) and I hope your interview goes really well.
Good luck!!
I’d reschedule if possible. Weather here looks like it will be bad. Between the flight and roads there are just to many opportunities for you to miss the interview.
Yep very cold all over Northeast!! Make sure you bring hat/mittens and ofcourse a warm coat.
Do keep checking the weather because it does sound like a big storm…and you probably don’t want to get stuck up there longer even if you do make it to PA.
Defintely reschedule or cancel.
Please tell me you cancelled and rescheduled, @Phoenix777 ! It’s much worse than predicted…
Yes, thank you guys for the advice. I did reschedule my interview for a later date.
