I don't really care which one I go to. But both of my parents are grads from fsu, so im leaning there

You might want to visit each, just to make sure you don't have a preference. Go with some friends, hang out, and take it all in.

ull like both schools there both prettty
uf is better ( my opinion )
fsu is really nice tooo and easier to get into.
Depends on what u want to do? have u applied yet?

Each school has specialty areas, so see which one matches your interests.

uf is a much better school. i usually hate to make things black and white but fsu is being cascaded by other state schools like ucf everyday. uf is truly one of america's best state schools whereas i know ppl at fsu who probly havent opened a book this far in the semester.

Nonsense. Pure and simple.

FSU is a Tier 1 school. UCF is a Tier 4 school.

UF has some fine programs but so does Florida State. They are not clones of each other. UF has strength in engineering, agriculture and medicine. Law school is virtually identical between the two. FSU has strength in the various sciences, Arts, social sciences and so forth. Both have good business programs. Some programs, like meteorology at FSU or journalism at UF are not duplicated.

UCF has none of these.

Tier one, FSU? Come on....what rankings are you reading? Not US News and World Report.

FSU is bottom tier one, top tier 2. Ranking tiers isnt by 25s you know...

Both are great schools, and are better options than UCF!

The 2007 edition of US News (undergraduate) has as 'National Universities: Top Schools' public and private schools rated from 1 to 124.

Nothing to brag about, but FSU rated 110. UF garnered 47th. UCF was Tier 4.

Kiplinger's in 2006 rated FSU 30th nationally among public universities. UCF did earn a 49th place in that list.

Grad school is much more specialized, but UF still holds the top spot in Florida in number of ranked programs. FSU is second; UMiami is third. UCF is not on the radar screen.

UF has an edge over FSU mainly due to their fine engineering program, a mature med school that is research-oriented and IFAS, which is the sole such agency in the state. FSU could develop both the engineering and med to match, but they'll never have IFAS (the agricultural extension service in Florida). IFAS is apparently counted as funding for students or improves the ratios considered in some university ratings analyses. Not much FSU can do about that. But as public universities, neither school should be a clone of the other unless there is a reason for it. UF is the ag school; FSU is the Arts school.

Both are flagship schools for Florida. Even with regional schools like UCF improving quality - a good thing - they will never catch the flagships. The alumni of both FSU and UF are very much interested in seeing the 150+ year old flagship schools do well.

Funding for higher education in Florida is weak compared to California, for example. Appropriate funding is essential for both UF and FSU to compete academically with schools like UCLA, UCB and the like. That's the focus for both now.

As an aside because I'm premed...

UF does have a great medical school reputation-wise but research-oriented medical schools don't necessarily produce the best doctors.

It's getting around that a lot of these highly-ranked medical schools churn out doctors who have zero people skills.

Interestingly, many premed students are choosing USF's medical school over UF's medical school. USF Med spent a lot of time catering to what students want and as a result they've produced a very popular program.

This carries over to undergrad as well. Although rankings are nice for post-grad opportunities, there seems to be a clear division between Ivy or state school.

So when you whittle it down to FSU/UCF/FAU/USF/etc, it's really more about :

what location you like best

what amenities are offered

and perhaps most importantly to students

where your friends are going

Florida State's med school is focused on primary care.

I must differ a bit...there's much more to FSU compared to the others (USF does have a nice med school) than location and amenities.

BTW, i currently have a 4.3 weighted and 1280 SAT,28 ACT, After visiting both colleges, I have chosen to go to FSU

You'll be very happy with your decision. If you've already applied and been accepted, be sure to apply for on-campus housing immediately.

Lots more info on the FSU board of the CC.
