Should I Hand-Score? (Report says I omitted the entire Math FreeResponse Section)

I just received my report..and apparently I omitted all ten questions from the Math Student-Produced Responses Section. And I'm like 99.99% sure I didn't! Do you think it's possible they missed it? Or do you think I wrote my answers in the wrong section??

Also, from the collegeboard website:
Multiple-choice hand score verification and/or essay score verification may result in higher or lower scores than the scores first reported. Adjusted scores are FINAL and will be reported to all score recipients.

It says MCQ or essay verification..does it include the free response math section? :|

I think tht the math FR is considered an essay portion. I would get it hand scored. I don't see how you could've put it in the wrong place.

look I would If you know you did not omit those questions, demand (pay for it) the hand score. thats bs. and yes my experience with CB is that they do make mistakes and sometimes significant mistakes.

This almost happened to me once. What you did is probably this:

With your math free response there is a free response section for sections 3 and 4 and another one for 5 and 6

So let's say that your math was section 5, you probably wrote it in the section 3 and 4 free response part. I think that is just your mistake and not something they will give you points for.

^^
Oh that really sucks....

I guess a retake is in order.

I think you forgot to fill in the bubbles on the FR and you just wrote the answers in the boxes.

It's highly unlikely you wrote it in another section like naderboy said because there only ONE free response section on each page of the answer booklet. And when you do the FR for the math, it is always the same page where you did the MC part for the math.

I think handscoring is just for stray marks or stuff like that for the bubbles. Since they were omitted, you only have yourself to blame for forgetting to bubble.

i think if you read their hand-scoring policy it will say that they only change scores if the answers were "bubbled in correctly according to the directions", so questions marked wrong for stray marks or lightly filled bubbles won't be changed.

i'd get it hand-scored, though.

The multiple-choice sections of all SAT Program tests are machine scanned. The scanning process is subject to careful and systematic quality control to ensure accuracy. The following guidelines are published in our test and practice materials and are given to all test-takers:

* Use a No. 2 pencil and a soft eraser. Do not use a pen or mechanical pencil.
* Make sure you fill in the entire circle darkly and completely.
* If you change your response, erase as completely as possible.

If your marks conform to the published instructions for marking the answer sheet, the scanning and scoring processes, combined with the quality control procedures, are designed to produce an accurate score. However, if you believe the process did not produce an accurate score, you may request a multiple-choice hand score verification. When hand scoring of a multiple-choice score is requested, your entire answer sheet will be manually reviewed—you cannot request verification of scores for a single section on the SAT Reasoning Test or a single Subject Test.

If your marks conform to the published instructions for marking the answer sheet, but there was an irregularity in the scanning and/or scoring process, your score may change. In this circumstance, your adjusted score will be automatically reported and your fee will be refunded.

IMPORTANT: If your marks did not follow the published guidelines, your scores will not change, and your fee will not be refunded.

This is taken from the Collegeboard website.

I think you can only get your score changed if there was a glitch or a problem in the actual scoring process. Not when a student makes a mistake like filling in the wrong section or bubbling too lightly.

If you wrote in the answers to the student-produced responses, but did not bubble in the grid, you will NOT get credit on a hand-score. They are very specific about that, including on the answer sheet.

DS found out about this the hard way on the PSAT. Ordered his answer sheet, saw the one omit (which he KNEW he answered), and he had written the answer, but not bubbled. CB website and the phone rep said sorry, it won't be changed.

hand score it

OK I guess I'll call them tmr and see how it goes.

Thanks for all your help! :)

If you got them all right, your score will improve by about 100 points. If you won't be satisfied with a score that is just 100 points higher, just retake the SAT. If you got a 700 math score, go for it.

I got my Q&A and it is obvious the computer made a mistake on my grid in answer. The answer was 1992 and the computer picked up as 19 2 and said I got it incorrect. What are the changces I left the 9 out. Is it worth it to pay to hand score as I think I would only get ten more points for this?

Thanks...........

@ Sweeper,

If you don't plan to retake the SAT again, then hand score it because it will boost up your score. You deserve that 10 points.

Sweeper, are you really leaning on your SAT scores for admission? There's a high chance you just left that nine out somehow, it is a long test. If that ten points won't do anything for your chances, then don't waste the money.

sweeper...pay for the hand score

A friend of mine also has screw ups on the student produced response, May test, not sure but think your's is the May test too, right?

wait a min. how do you know you missed the entire free resp questions? did u order QAS? From what i see from the detailed score report that collegeboard gives for my may test, it just says that i missed a certain number of problems and i omitted some problems. it gives me raw score also.

Yeah the QAS shows you each number in each section you got wrong/omitted, then you can check it against the test booklet

Did you have any success with score verification? I’m going through the exact same thing right now!!! :(
