Should I have sent my SAT scores to Mount Holyoke?

So I submitted my application for Mount Holyoke College and my counselor said that there was no point in sending my sat scores if I didn’t get like a 2400 or something like that,but upon reading various threads about whether not sending scores to test-optional schools is okay various users said it raises a red flag to the admissions committee.So,as I’m sure you’ve been wondering,my SAT score is an 1880(I know not the best) and Mount Holyokes average SAT score is like a 1980. So now I’m worried,that they’ll think that I got a super low sat score ,think that’s why I didn’t send them,and reject me. Any help? Or guidance?

This is completely my opinion, but since no one has has replied, I will. :slight_smile:

I think that if the rest of your application is strong (grades, essay, etc.), then it won’t be a problem at all that you didn’t send your scores.

If you feel like your scores strengthen your application, I would send them.

If it’s too late to send your scores anyway, then do not worry about it. I do not not know what the deadline is for sending your scores RD.

(Again, I’m just the mom of a student who will be attending Mount Holyoke in the fall, so I’m by no means an expert.) :slight_smile: Good luck!

@txserenity thanks a bunch! I think I’m fine without them,especially after receiving your reassurance :slight_smile:

You’re very welcome @Tookme10mins ! Hope to see you at Mt. Holyoke in the fall!

:slight_smile:

I agree with @txserenity! Also, I went to an event at MHC in which we analyzed which aspects of the application they find most important. They stressed that they will not assume that someone not reporting scores has poor ones; they will assume that you want to be represented by actual, reliable information such as GPA, essays and supplements, ECs, etc. (lol can you tell I’m among those against the idea that standardized scores measure intelligence?)
Also, after admission they ask for scores just for statistical information, and a good chunk of those not reporting scores had above the average, further contributing to the idea that people do not only omit scores because they performed poorly (but for the record, an 1880 is not very poor at all!). No worries!

@19171998biology thank you so much for the encouragement I really needed it and I agree,I also wish standardized testing didn’t hold as much importance as it does in college admissions.thanks again and good luck with the college admissions process! :slight_smile:

I think you should submit your scores. Mount Holyoke does not rely on the SAT scores to make or break a student applicant. Your scores might not be the best but I assume that you have other qualities that shine in your application that might convince the admissions officers that you would be a great addition to the entering class. Your class (2020) is the “granddaughter” class to mine (I’m a graduate of Mount Holyoke, Class of 1970). I would be proud to welcome you to our wonderful college if the admissions officers decide that you should be admitted. In 2020, you will receive a scarf in your class color from our class to signify the ageless bond we have as Mount Holyoke alums. Good luck – our college is a national treasure and you would be very lucky to be admitted.

@thank you!:slight_smile:

@dc20016 My daughter was accepted Early Decision and will be in the Mount Holyoke class of 2020. What a wonderful tradition to have a grandmother/granddaughter class! I am so excited for my daughter to have the opportunity to attend a college so rich with traditions.

I frankly don’t think you need to bother to submit your scores. Mt. Holyoke won’t count not sending them against you, and they are a little low for the average submitted scores (although they are not bad by any means). They probably won’t help or hurt you, so why bother to spend the money to send them?

@FireflyLights Thank you. That’s exactly what I’ve decided do. Thanks again! :slight_smile:

As an update, I ended up getting in. :slight_smile:

Congratulations!

Thank you! :slight_smile:

Congratulations! I’ll be attending this fall as a member of 2020 as well :slight_smile:

@19171998biology thanks.Congratulations to you too. :slight_smile: I’m not entirely sure if I’m going to go,since I’m still waiting on other schools,but it is pretty up there(perhaps in the top 3). Before I make a definite decision I have to visit the campus first since I haven’t seen it in person yet,but from what I’ve seen from the pictures it looks positively beautiful.I’m planning on going to that overnight thing/tour thing their having in April. But,so far what I’ve seen of the school and what I’ve learned I’ve really liked. :slight_smile:

This is great news. Welcome to Mount Holyoke

@dc2016 thanks! :smiley:

@Tookme10mins I bet you fall in love when you visit! My daughter certainly did. The campus is amazing and the people are all so welcoming. We are going back for Admitted Student Day in April too even though she has already paid her enrollment deposit and committed to MHC. We both just want to visit again! :slight_smile:
