So the Calc teacher at my school is extremely easy for the AB kids- she doesn't push them and a lot of kids who didn't do so well in Precalc leave the AB class with A's. The same teacher teaches BC, but is EXTREMELY tough on us. Last year no one got an A (highest was a B+). I'm taking BC because I'm good at math and I wanted to challenge myself. I'm confident that I'll get a 5 (or AT LEAST a 4 on the exam), but my grade in the class might be a B/B+. This will be my only grade below an A. Is this worth it?

If you want to learn the BC stuff, it's worth it. If you don't, then it's not.

Is this senior year or junior year? If it's senior year I'd tough it out with BC for the college credit and the learning. If it's junior year, you have more important things to worry about, your grades count more, and you can always take BC next year, so I'd take AB.

I would stick it out. In the end, the difference between an A and a B+ or an A and a B won't make or break your application. However, when you're in college and wake up at 10 a.m. only to have your roommate walk in and groan about how he had to be up at 8 for his Calc class... you will be thankful. Trust me.

Of course, it also depends on your major. Certain majors may not require the calculus class you get credit for from BC. Some may. Mine does, as does my roommates. If you don't know what you plan to major in, better to be safe and take it. If you know however that the extra credit will go to waste, then of course it would be silly to.

If you're a senior...

it probably wouldn't matter anyways because you'll be applying to colleges before your GPA can be recalculated, so colleges won't really care. Of course, they'll look at your senior year grades, but when they see a B in BC calc, it'll look as good as an A.

MegaVortex7 is a junior.

Is there a reason not to take AB in junior year and BC in senior year?

Sherpa - BC covers AB and then some additional material. So, yes, you could certainly take both, but you would find a significant portion of your time in BC going over material you would already have done.

I'm a junior. I guess I'll stick it out and try my hardest.
