Should I? ... Help me make a decision.

I have a chance to get my essay for University X edited by an admissions officer from University X. Should I allow the admissions officer to take a look at my essay and give me feedback? On one hand I think it is an advantage because an admissions officer will be editing my essay, on the other hand I think it is an disadvantage because she may find my essay a "turn off," thus when the real application process comes she may deny/defer me. Who knows..

Many people from my school are giving her copies of their essays for her to critique, but I still am not sure if I should do that. Persuade me.

I need advicee. Please and thankyou.

What? An admissions officer from the college you are applying to is willing to read your draft? That’s crazy.

I would say no as there is a conflict of interest. I just wouldn’t want an admissions officer reading my early drafts…it’s a bit risky, as you said. Better safe than sorry. If you don’t show him/her, it won’t count against you.

Thanks! Anyone else think differently? Or does everyone have the same opinion as immortalix?

There is more than one admissions officer, you know. Doesn’t mean he/she will be the same one to read it later. And taking advantage of this opportunity shows that you make use of what’s available to you. If your essay is a turn off now, guess what? It will be later also, so it’s better to get a chance to fix it.

I say do it.
