For one of my non-common app schools, the application has a section specifically for sports. I have marching band which I included. My freshman year, I was accepted into the varsity tennis team but I had to quit because of scheduling problems. (As a principal chair player in my band, I could not miss the after school rehearsals.) I was wondering if it would good to include this because it shows that I was chosen to be on the varsity team or if it would be bad because it seems to show a “lack of commitment.” Thanks for any advice!
No. You didn’t play.
My kids didn’t include activities the only did freshman & soph years unless they won an award or had a tie into their narrative or proposed major. But they had a lot of activities, too.
They couldn’t care less if you “could have” been on the varsity tennis team. It’s about what you DID.
Ok Thanks for all of the responses! I will omit this from my application.
Interesting. I’m running into the same problem. Can’t play football this year, but participated in the whole offseason program which is longer than the season itself. Having to quit was not my choice at all. How would I explain that?
