I’m a female studying BME and I was wondering whether I should join the program. The only thing that deters me from it is living on an all female floor. I really want to get away from ALL females because I live in a house FULL of them. What are the pros and cons of the program?

Its not really a program…its just the floor. I lived on the WISE floor this past year and loved it. If you wanted boys/loud saturday and friday nights you just had to go up or down one floor. It was nice because especially with you being BME because people on the floor will actually study and study groups can be formed easily. If you don’t want all females, then I would recommend the engineering floor. I am the current vice-president of the sophomore class for engineering and I spent alot of time on the engineering floors. People get really tight on them and tend to live together in future years. If you have any more questions about engineering (I am BME), eng floors, WISE floors, or anything BU related feel free to ask away. :)

Ok thanks! I guess I’ll go with co-ed engineering floor. I had another question. I’ve heard about grade deflation going on around BU, but i’ve read somewhere that the engineering students aren’t affected by it. Is this true? Also, I was wondering if you knew whether the admitted students had to maintain a certain GPA for second semester senior year. I do not want my admissions to get canceled

I was also wondering how the teacher’s were at the school. Is there a specific teacher’s class i should try to get into or try to avoid?

@swimchik2: HELLO THERE! I got the WISE email a few weeks ago. I submitted my housing survey back in April and resubmitted it with WISE on May 28/19 ish. Recently, my room was assigned…Does that mean I have the room already? Oo I’m also into BME, going to pursue a minor in it instead of a major (neuroscience major). Do you have any recommendations on pretty much anything? Professors, class scheduling, etc? Thank you! ^_^
@VennFenrir: I don’t think there’s a GPA requirement as long as your GPA didn’t slip a lot or there are D’s/F’s on your final transcript.

VennFenrir…Engineering is affected by it along with the rest of the school but I honestly don’t feel its that bad. The worst place that you will see it is in the general chemistry sequence (ch 101/102). I would have had a professors name to avoid in that sequence but he isn’t teaching anymore so no need to worry about him. Also in terms of classes to take if you can get into the EK 131/132 BME environments class it is wonderful for its alot of field trips where you actually see the usage of machines that BME’s have created. Yeah, the engineering floors are alot of fun and they also tend to have really god RA’s! Also as a recommendation…take EK 127 first semester…for with having chem, physics, matlab, and calc second semester it is a tough semester! Also, there aren’t gpa requirements just no F’s for sure and I don’t think that they want to see D’s either (especially in important classes–sciences, math, english, etc)

Tiredyethappy…Like i said above try and take ek 127 (matlab) first semester instead of second. If you have to take it second semester try and take the ek 131/132 bme environments class. Also for chemistry Hammond is very good in front of large groups of students (but sucks one-on-one) and Abrams is also really good in front of the whole lecture hall. For calculus I had Kezim and found him pretty easy, but there aren’t too many bad calc 1/2 professors except for maybe Arazyan (sp?). Class scheduling is honestly up to you…like I prefer morning classes so that way I am done at 2pm, can work until 6pm everyday and then be done but there are lots of people who don’t want to wake up until 10 so their classes start at noon it just depends on the type of person you are.

Both of yall…the only thing that I suggest with scheduling is that you don’t have more then one lab on mondays for thats when the chemistry exams are (monday evenings) and trying to do two lab reports on sundays evening while studying…well it is difficult, let me tell ya! ;)
