Hi guys sorry to bother you but should I just give up? I'm a freshman and grades are bad right now c b a b c c. Semester grades are c c a b c c. I am doing horrible and quarter 2 is ending next week. I handed in some missing assignments and im hoping some of those boost a grade up. So is there now no chance of me going to u.f. u.s.f. or f.s.u? Someone please reply. Next semester I am going to try to get b's and a's. Will that help me? Bye.

You shouldn’t stop trying. It’s your freshman year and you’re just starting to get into the swing of things. You definitely need to improve if you want to go to a good school, but one quarter won’t kill your chances. If you do horribly for several quarters that’s a different story. Study more and try to get at least all B’s then aim for A’s, work your way up.

bluepuppy is right. Plus colleges are much more lenient when your gpa trend is uphill as opposed to downhill. Figure out what is that makes you not do well in your classes and fix it. Your high school career just started, you have plenty of time to make up for this

@bluepuppy but this is a whole semester and I heard colleges look only at semester grades so when they see I started off hs with a 2.4 I won’t be able to get into uf or fsu

I think you’re messing around more than you’re being forthcoming about. No one is stupid. Slap yourself in the face and realize that no matter what we say nothing will change unless you do something yourself.

You still got like 7 semester left. Don’t ever give up. stop studying more and take control of your future #NEVERGIVEUP

You’re only a Freshman, you’ve got a long way to go.

Anecdote time - I knew a boy Freshman year who basically flunked all of his classes - and i mean flunked. Like, he had to be held back, and turned into a “Freshmore” as we call them in our school… Well, Sophomore year (or his “Freshmore year” I guess), he did a total 180, and started getting high C’s and B’s, and he kept pushing himself, farther and farther. If he didn’t understand something, he studied. If he still didn’t understand it, he went to a teacher, if that didn’t work, he went to a different teacher. He did extra credit and made test corrections whenever possible, he always did his homework, he always studied… and by the time he was a Junior, he was getting virtually all A’s.

He brought up an initial GPA of around a 1.1 to now a 3.2 I believe. He started at the very bottom and worked his way up - you can as well.

(I don’t know this kid TOO personally, but he’s like the poster child of perseverance at our school. We basically parade him up and down the halls. Just kidding about that last part, LOL)

Don’t give up! It’s never a bad idea to talk to your teacher, get on the same page as them, and let them know how serious you are about making the most of your time in high school.

Semester avg is a 2.3… so stressed guys but if I get a 3.1 nex over a 3.0 my next 7 semesters can I get into a good college

Yes, you can. Stop Selling yourself short. Your still a Freshman Dang Nabit!

So… some things to think about… Other posters are right. You can dig your way out of a hole from freshman year, but start now. Like, second semester of freshman year.
But it is easy to SAY you are going to get better grades, but how are you actually going to do it? Here are a few suggestions:

Look at your course selections. Are there courses you are really struggling with where you are taking honors courses, and maybe you should drop back to the “regular” level of class? If you do that in a couple of subject areas, that is okay (try to keep at least a couple of things at the honors level, though). For the schools you are talking about, it is probably better to have good grades than to take the very hardest schedule.

Do you have sufficient time to study? Are you in too many extra curriculars? One of my kids had to drop a few activities spring of freshman year, she was just doing too many things. Focus in on 2-3 things as ECs and do them really well. Forget the rest. My kids would have MUCH rather done ECs than go to school at all. But we couldn’t let them do that…

Can you lighten your schedule and add a study hall? We made sure my D1 always had a study hall during her sport season so there was some window in the day for homework.

Do you have good study skills? If not, spend some time on the internet looking at websites with tips. I think different things work for different students, so see what pops out as a good idea for you. How to organize and keep track of assignments, how to figure out if you REALLY know the material, how to keep from getting distracted, etc. All things you need to learn.

Ask your teachers for help as soon as you have an issue!

Lots of high schools have “tutoring guilds” where older students provide support to younger ones. Can you get a tutor in your weakest couple of subjects? My kids both needed French tutors, they were AWFUL at French.

And… if you want to raise your math grade, and the teacher gives out homework assignments ahead, work one day ahead in math all the time. Then you already know what you don’t understand when you walk into class every day.

My 2nd gpa I brought it up to a 3.0 which imo is agod improvement. Its because I actualy tried lol. So. If I keep this up think my eoy gpa will be better?
