on physics8a?
i'm pretty sure i'mgoing to fail this damn class. i don't understand any of these last subjects and i failed my first midterm. (literally failed.) While I did pretty good on the second midterm, it's not enough to save me. What the hell should I do?
I got chem 3b before this final and I feel I should dedicate my time for that instead, so i can actually do alright (~B) in that class.......

dont give up-im in the same boat as you remember?

they literally give out like 5 Ds/Fs from looking at courserank

hell, i studied an entire week for bio 1a (which was on monday)…im only going to start studying for 8a tomorrow after my second final gets over at 2:30

you can do it!!! also, while you should focus on 3b if you think you can do better in it than 8a, 8a is also more units so it will take a larger toll on your gpa, just sayin

Please, I have 30 pages to write by 3pm tomorrow.

I had 3 finals the day before my physics 8a final last semester. I didn’t study at all and I didn’t really understand anything from the last 3rd of the class, and didn’t think I got any of the problems on the final completely right. But my grade didn’t drop at all - that class is VERY generously curved lol

wait…what?

well if i don’t dedicate a little more time into chem and do poorly, i might end up with a C or even a D :\ in chem on top of a potential D with physics. That would just make me sad as hell.

pick one and study it dude lol, u don’t have much time

I know what you mean =/ Should I spend time on chem or physics? I say go balls to the wall and stay up all night and study for both. That’s what I’m doing lol

just beast out and pray.

praying doesn’t help when it comes to physics. just look at my first midterm.

Okay, so if you guys all got into Berkeley, how come people get D’s and F’s? Is it because people don’t put in as much effort as they used to or classes are literally impossible for those who are not pure geniuses? I got in for fall so I’m just wondering.

if you went to a cake high school and didn’t ever need to put any effort. it can happen. its a lot easier to get in than to do well

because high school for the most part is a joke and getting a 4.0 there means absolutely nothing about how you’re going to do here

and because people procrastinate

and because people don’t really get Ds/Fs often and “fail” doesn’t normally actually mean fail (even for batman lol)

Yeah high school was a joke. You don’t have the fluff/busy work to boost your grade and your whole grade is determined by a couple of tests (well for science). When you have 2-5 finals in a span of a couple of days and all are like 10 pages and hella problems and each is anywhere from 30-50% of your final grade than It can get pretty overwhelming and hard to study all the material you covered in a semester. My o-chem notebook is like 150 pages and added with physics it can be pretty brutal to retain all that information for two, back to back, 3 hour finals tomorrow.

Also at Berkeley when most people (especially premeds) say they failed they really got like a B or C. The lingo goes A = okay/fine, B = not as well as I liked, C = I failed, D/F = I might drop out of school.

but there’s still time for you berry…

if you want to maintain your undeserved sense of accomplishment from high school, go to a private school. When you go public, you’re just another raindrop in a hurricane of s h i t. They expect you to learn on your own while touting their “world class faculty,” you sit with 300 students not hoping that you’ll understand the concepts… just that you can beat the damn curve. get out while you can.

obviously I’m biased b/c my 4.0 being taken away this semester by a sh itty physics professor who doesn’t even teach…

^ You have a 4.0? Daaaamn hella crazy!

berry - don’t listen to anonymousesername - he’s the resident cal hater.

granted, there will be classes where you’ll have some issues, but thus far, even in some of my larger courses, i’ve had fantastic teachers. physics is probably the only course thus far where i’ve not had a good experience with the instructor. i’ve been on this campus longer than anonymousesername and probably have done a lot more.

granted, it will be harder than a private school because the student body is large, but there are plenty of resources here for you to take advantage of. most people don’t.

and anonymousesername, a 4.0 after one semester while not being involved in too much is not something that gives you a **** ton of authority. why don’t you go and atleast try to enjoy this school instead of spending so much time bashing it on this forum as well as sdn

I agree with anonymous though. Fajans sucked balls. It was even worse for me, having never taken physics in high school. Half the stuff he said just made me go **. Hell sitting in lecture, you can hear people saying out loud.

then why do you guys go? i never went to my physics 8a lecture (weird very accented german professor) and I got an A just by spending a lot of time understanding the mastering physics problems

you just have to figure out the best way to handle each class… like you obviously can’t skip pedersen’s lectures and expect to pull of an A.
