Usually, in my high school you take 6 classes. Except for seniors. Many of us take 4 or 5. I was planning to take 6, but I don't really want to anymore. My main concern is my gpa. If I take 6 classes, get 5 A's and one B, I can have a 3.62 unweighted. But if I take 5 classes and get all A's, except one B, I will have a 3.59...Do you guys think it's worth it to take 6 classes just for that small difference?

Yeah you don’t need 6; my school has 7 classes and I’m just taking 5 because the class rank I’m applying with has my junior year completed so I’m not worried if my gpa drops a bit. Colleges will know that I’m taking 5 classes when I could be taking 7 because I have to send in a first semester transcript but they mostly just require that to make sure you don’t just make all D’s. But if you want to get into a very top school then you better take a full schedule.

Depends on the schools; for example, the UCs specifically look for “…quality of the student’s senior-year program, as measured by the type and number of academic courses in progress or planned”.

If you have a class that you’re interested in then I would say go for it, but since you don’t seem like you do then it’s probably not a good idea. Perhaps you could redirect your time to college apps?

At my school, you’re either enrolled in only 5 courses two reasons. One being that you’re taking an AP science, which is two class periods long, and a study hall. The second being that you’re also taking classes at the community college.

Given the situation, I think you’d be fine with taking just five classes unless you’re applying to an Ivy or another prestigious school.

Wait… I don’t get it… how is that possible? Having another A would raise your GPA, not lower it. Unless your As are worth 3.5 or something…

Wow. I still can’t decide…Do you guys think a 3.61 is that big of a difference from a 3.59?

**** the .02. You’re not even going to remember your high school GPA. Don’t waste the time and effort.

lol, uh,any other opinions? Haha, I know I won’t remember it, I just want to know if it would make a difference for college.

^ If .02 is the difference between a college rejecting you and accepting you, then you probably aren’t a good fit for that college.

I only took 4 classes in high school senior year, and I turned out fine…
