Should I keep the same lab notebook from semester to semester?

Should I keep the same lab notebook from semester to semester? Or should I get a new one each semester? Does it matter? Also, is there any point in keeping my old lab notebooks? I tried searching this but couldn't find any answers.

For which courses?

For me, I use (unless otherwise specified by the professor), a lab book for the sequence. So Chemistry has it’s own, O-Chem has it’s own, Physics has it’s own etc. This allows me to look back (Yes, I do keep them).

It’s also good practice in the even that you go to graduate school.

I also provide the sticky notes that indicate where each course begins, to ease the grading process. Generally, if I’m feeling EXTRA kind, I leave a sticky note on the front page on the first relevant page.

I find it beneficial to keep all of my notes and lab reports together. As sabella mentioned, I try to keep the notes from a sequence all together. All of my notes and lab notes from General Chemistry are all together. I’m keeping all the notes from my University Physics sequence together. It’s useful to be able to reference things in the future.
