Should I know my freshman residence hall by now?

I so worried that there is one thing that won't go through and my enrollment is messed up.

Both of my girls found out toward the end of July. I remember because it was right around the time we moved for both of them.

info usually comes late july

there is probably a fbook group for your freshmen class, which would be a good place to see if others have heard yet

Patience. You’re quite early. I didn’t find out until one of the last weeks of July.

Yes, everything is on the later side, compared with other schools. Many of my daughter’s friends already have their roommates, room assignments and even their schedules. W&M chooses to do this differently. I don’t mind the late room assignment, but not registering until after they arrive is a bit disconcerting! I’m sure it’ll work out but I can’t help but think the registration process will put a stressful feel to the orientation weekend, which it should be anything but. Ah, well. small issues. Big Things Ahead!!

@momneedsguidance - Actually, they recently pushed back freshman registration because the students were getting confused and stressed out while trying to do it over summer break. (I think) there was just such a big disconnect among all the students: spread out all over the world, some on vacation and not at home, some with poor home internet connections, some just confused at the registration process, etc. After much consideration, they decided to move it to orientation so that everyone would be in one place at one time with as much faculty/staff help as they need.

At least, I think that’s how it went down. They went over the change during my peer advising orientation. Regardless, registration is stressful no matter where you are, but I actually think it will be less so on campus. I was really freaked out during my freshman registration because I have such a slow, poor home internet connection. On campus, everyone’s on the same ground (and if something bad happens, you can call the right faculty member or just run on over to their offices for help).

I remember the old system…and thinking it was disjointed as well (registering for two thirds of your classes, or something like that.) I think this is definitely in response to the issues you touched on, and hopefully it will be an improvement!
It is interesting to hear how each college goes about orientation/scheduling differently.

I’m really not worried for my daughter…I’m sure come the first day of class, each student will have a schedule. Hey, there is always drop/add and asking for an override :)

the new way is better i’m sure… I remember waking up at 5 to get to a starbucks at 6am b/c I was out in Denver when we got to register

I heard mid-July for housing assignments!
I think it’s better that we don’t register for classes until orientation though! Some of my friends at other schools are confused and stressed out because they don’t know what to take!
