Hi, I did volunteer work for two different Republican judges and am considering working for my congressman. However I’m not sure if I should put it on my resume since most of the admin officers will probably be Democrats. Do you think they’ll not like my application because I did work for a Republican? Or would they not care?
I interned with the Republican State Committee during my gap year, detailed the experience on my Gap-Year Explanation Letter and sent it to colleges that I’ve applied to. Needless to say, it turned out just fine.
Absolutely include them. First of all, they are great ECs. Second, I can’t imagine there are schools that don’'t accept Republicans – and on the very off chance that you find such a school, you probably don’t want to go there anyway. And third, there is no need to put the party affiliation down on your application, just say that you volunteered for Judge A, Judge B, and Congressman C. It is doubtful that any busy admission officer will even check on the party affiliation of these people.
Unless it’s some controversial figure like Trump (even then, they can’t neccessarily judge, your reader might be sympathetic with him) the Republican party is as of now and in the past a respectable instution.
Judges are supposed to be apolitical. Now, that of course doesn’t mean they are, but I can’t see why you would mention their political stance. A judge interprets the law. List it, leave out the politics, or you may indeed raise eyebrows. My dad is a judge by the way, he would sayThe same.
My mom is a judge, I know political stance doesn’t (or shouldn’t) matter. I don’t have to list in on the resume but they’ll probably find out if it’s a Senator or Rep
