Kind of a silly question, I know.
Race is optional on the Common App. I really don’t know if I should list I’m white or not. I don’t want it to count against me (not saying colleges would count it against me, but just to be sure).
Help?!
To update this, I am going to put down “White” but now it asks “Which best describes your white background?”

I’m Armenian, I’m not sure what that would be under?
^ i’m quarter pashtun/ quarter tajik (south asian ethnic groups) and half white ukranian and i have the same problem - i’d say it depends if you have connection to your ethnicity / pass for white or not. i’m somewhat passing (light skin w ethnic features) and v connected to culture and talked about it in some of my essays/interviews.

It is optional, so you do not need to check a race box. No decent university will be against you because you exercise the option. My S is an Asian American and has an obvious Asian last name. He did not check the race box and was accepted into many top schools.
