So i'm facing a dilemma as I'm not quite sure on what IB classes to take. Currently I've taken 2 years of biology AND chemistry (no physics, can't take it either for the next two years but don't care since I HATE it). I'm trying to decide on whether I should take another 2 years of both biology and chemistry? Since, i'm probably not going to major in anything STEM related my counselor advised me to go the humanities route instead of burdening myself with sciences
I'm not sure if I should follow that advice or keep my options open by taking HL biology and chemistry (equivalent to AP chem/bio) for the next two years. After researching a lot majoring in science (bio, biochem, chemistry etc) doesn't seem like something I'd be interested in because I frankly don't want to get into research or anything of the likes nor do I want to get into a professional school (medical, dental or pharmacy). Also, things like computer science and engineering are something I'd NEVER consider.

So what should I do? Take both chem and bio or only go for biology and take another humanities class for the next two years? I've always been interested in something finance/accounting related and therefore another humanities course would serve me much better.

*Disclaimer: I got a British school and therefore don't need to take physics during high school if it has nothing to do with my intended major. We're also encouraged to take classes that pertain to our intended majors so there is no need to load up on maths/science if i'm going to major in history or whatever and vice versa. - Just needed to put that out there.

Are you doing the IB Diploma at all or…?

@Animefan1998 Yep i’m doing the diploma…

Do you at least have an idea on a few of your IB classes, like Math or your language classes, whether they’re SL or HL? I think it’d be easier to build your schedule based on the IB classes you’re definitely planning on taking over the next 2 years.

@Animefan1998 I know I’m definitely taking HL Economics, Biology and SL Maths, Spanish and English. Basically stuck choosing between HL Chemistry and Psychology. Chemistry’s obviously more useful in the long run but I don’t intend on going into the sciences anymore (100% sure of this after researching a lot) so psychology seems like a good alternative since I’m not interested in history/geography (my only other choices). But then again I keep on hearing about people changing their minds about what they’d like to major in during IB and well dropping chemistry closes many doors…so it’s quite an issue. Plus, psych would make my schedule less rigorous?

Wait. In your initial post, you were talking about choosing between BIOLOGY and Chemistry, and now you’re talking about PSYCHOLOGY and Chemistry.
Well anyways, so you’re trying to decide on another HL. Do you particularly like or have an interest in either psychology and chemistry?

@Animefan1998 Hahah it’s because I don’t know what career I’d like to pursue and well I frankly haven’t got the slightest idea of what my strength/weaknesses are since I get similar grades in all my classes. Each of my subject teachers are encouraging me to take their respective subjects which also doesn’t help

I’ve loved chemistry this year and i’ve done amazing in it but I do find psychology quite interesting as well but I haven’t taken it before though. Parent’s think it’s really stupid to drop chemistry for psychology regardless of my major because they think psych is a pointless subject and I guess they’ve got a point… But I keep on thinking why burden myself with chem if I’m not going the science route?

Maybe you should just go with Psychology since you’re already planning on doing Biology HL, and unless you’re really passionate about sciences, I’m pretty sure it’d be death to do 2 HL sciences.
