Should I major in Communications/minor in Marketing or vice versa for PR?!

Hello all!

So I am a transfer student from SUNY Oswego as a Broadcasting and Mass Communication major and am planning to transfer to a SUNY/CUNY school closer to home (Long Island) and focus more on Public Relations rather than journalism and reporting. I am going to apply to Baruch in NYC and Old Westbury on Long Island. Baruch I plan to apply as a Business Communication major with a minor in Marketing, but Old Westbury I am undecided. I don’t know if I should major in their Media and Communications program (which is more focused on journalism) and minor in Marketing, or major in Marketing and Minor in PR. I just want to make the right decision! Thanks guys

Bureau of Labor Statistics (United States) data (http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_table_102.htm and http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_nat.htm#00-0000) show that from 2012 to 2014 there was a 12.6% increase in the number of “Market research analysts and marketing specialists”, but “Reporters and correspondents”, “Media and communications workers” (the whole broad field), and “Public relations specialists” all declined (-18%, -23% and -9.2%, respectively).

The BLS growth predictions for 2012-2022 are 31.6% for “Market research analysts and marketing specialists”, 12% for “Public relations specialists”, 8.3% for “Media and communications workers”, and -13.8% for “Reporters and correspondents”.

From the (important) point of view of employability, moving away from journalism and to marketing makes sense.
